Which one is the better writer and which one had more influence on their respective mediums?
Am I fool for asking this question on a predominantly american comic book website?
@bluejay4: you are a fool for asking.
While DBZ had a huge impact on the world, it's time has passed and they are currently trying to resuscitate a dead horse. While I hate to Admit, with Marvel movies being as big as the are now, their time in the sun is eclipsing the sun at the moment.
Stan Lee; AT influence seems mostly contained to Asia whereas the characters that Stan Lee created influence creativity around the world.
Stan Lee stomps----but neither are good writers, to be honest.
Better than anything DC writers put out at least!
:P
@dccomicsrule2011: DB/Marvel>>>DC

I prefer Akira Toriyama.
Also, why is it that Toriyama is beating a dead horse when its not dead? People clearly want more Dragon Ball. Its funny that some of these western companies can release movies, comics, video games, toys, pajamas, blankets, posters etc. for a handful of the same characters for years but they aren't ever labeled as beating a dead horse lol
@dccomicsrule2011: Facts shouldn't rustle anything.

Most want it out of nostalgia or because they're that much into DBZ. Battle of the gods wasn't anything impressive and it made me question DBZ's quality. Beerus wanting to destroy the Earth because he didn't get any pudding was quite possibly the stupidest reason a fight started in all of DBZ, which they even made fun of in Xenoverse where Trunks says "this fight started for the stupidest reason"
The Dragon Ball series was definitely an amazing series, but I got to give it up to Stan the man.
Stan Lee at least knew what a "plot" was
@gambit474: considering you have a villain who was willing to sacrifice his entire army just so he could get stronger, I'm not surprised about beerus wanting to destroy the planet over something that childish (considering being childish is his defining trait)
To answer the question, Stan the man. But I do love toriyama's other works. (Jaco, Dr. Slump, etc)

stan lee wrote more legendary characters
stan lee ftw
This is a question? Stan in a godstomp.
Lee, even though I really like DBZ.
Wow, Stan Lee in a rout. How do you Define influential? There are people who have never see DBZ that have absolutely no idea who Goku is, but even my mother knows what happens when you make Bruce Banner angry. THAT'S impact. You can say that's because I'm American, but I've got news for you: there are a heck of a lot more people in America than there are in Japan.
Toriyama because battle shonen manga are much more popular in countries not in America. It's cheaper to buy and Japanese anime onto international TV channels work better. Even my parents remember japanese shows on their TV set when they were kids, as an example.
@havenless: uh, the question is asking about influence, that doesn't have anything to do with whether or not someone recognises the character, it has to do with how they influenced their medium after they released their books (stan lee with comics, toriyama with manga)
Just wanted to clear that part up for you
Toriyama's a better writer. Stan Lee is more influencial. Tbh, Toriyama is too formulaic for my personal tastes, but for a lot of Gold and Silver Age books, pretty much everyone besides the protagonists were complete idiots. Lee was very creative, but a lot of his issues ended way too conviently in the heroes favor.
