Marvel Genesis: Cable, Chapter 4- Fallen

Year- 4000 A.D.

Location- United States of America

It was a dreadful wasteland. Everyone, including the women, children, and men of all ages scattered around the area, looking for food. Desperate time became desperate measures. These people felt hope draining away from their lives. Someone has to take a stand and fight the enemies of Apocalypse.

Apocalypse ruled Earth for the last 2000 years. He hid himself, which made the entire world to beg the Askani Order to stop him. His destruction has been laid to waste, and every hero died by his cause. There were all of them except for one man, who was born to fight Apocalypse. His name was Christopher Summers, also known as Cable.

Cable led his army of Askani soldiers to fight the dark agents of Apocalypse. Some of these agents were alien in nature; the others were humans and mutants. These days, the human rebels had to fight side by side with other species in order to avoid the war. Someday, Cable will stop his worst enemy, no matter what the costs.

Christopher Summers had been trained during his early years. He also joined the Psi-Ops program, so that his mutant abilities could be controlled. The mutant, Blaquesmith made sure of that. He taught his student well. At the time of need, Cable was sent to save these innocent people from the reign of the ancient Pharaoh.

Given the accurate information, Cable has learned that someone released Apocalypse sometime in the year 2000. He didn’t know where it could take place. He had a hunch that somewhere, a place where nobody would ever know. In order to gain that knowledge, Cable has to go underground, find the information from any dark agent, and then return to the Askani Order. With this possible information, Cable could destroy Apocalypse.

Cable’s twin brother Nathan Summers also joined the fight, but sometimes he sees that Cable shouldn’t be taking the big risks alone. They fought together, willing to destroy the ancient mutant.

Nathan Summers was created due to the fact that Christopher had been infected with the Techno-Organic Virus. The Askani Order had a bad feeling that Christopher was going to die. Instead, they had to create a clone, hoping the virus wouldn’t affect him. They were right. Nathan Summers became a perfect clone. The scientists of the Askani Order have notified the success. However, Christopher still survived. The only problem lies to his abilities. The virus seemed to drain his psychic energies, which could mean Cable will lose his mutant abilities permanently.

The Askani Order had no problem recruiting the two mutants at their disposal. They had every right to train them, even though they were quite different from each other. The Mother Askani even saw that.

Cable contacted his twin brother, who has been given a codename, Stryfe by the Askani Order. So far, there was no answer. He ran through the rubble of the fallen country. There were dark agents firing at him. Cable shot them, one by one. His female partner, Jenskot joined him in case, if Nathan wasn’t around.

Cable and Stryfe were both partners and became part of the Psi-Ops program, which recruits people with psionic abilities. It was those days of harsh training, and Cable remembered it well. He couldn’t forget the fact that the virus was still affecting his body. Slowly, he could die, maybe months, years, or who knows when. It didn’t matter. All it matters is that Cable succeeds on his dangerous mission.

The Askani soldiers found the debris of the Statue of Liberty. The dark agents fought them, with swords and other weapons. Cable ordered the team, including Jenskot to fan out, and kill them.

Ever since Cable met Jenskot, her real name was Aliya Dayspring. Aliya was found tortured by one of the dark agents in the deep underground of New York. Cable found her, and rescued her. It took a long time for her to adjust the new surroundings of this new world. That time, she knew the world had already crumbled apart. She sometimes said to Cable that she didn’t care what happened to her because the world was dying, and there was nobody left to save it.

Now, Aliya had been given a second chance. She realized that life was worth living, even in this dangerous wasteland. In order to survive, she went through intense training as any soldier out there, who wanted to join the fight. She had been given a codename, Jenskot.

Aliya joined with Cable, not because she feared that something would happen to him. It’s because she owed him her life. She was happy to be with the tough soldier. At times, she even fell in love with him.

They broke through some tunnel where the dark agents have come from. They also learned that the four horsemen of Apocalypse have returned to wreak havoc in the wasteland. They needed to be careful enough to prevent themselves from being killed by the horsemen.

The transmission occurred through Cable’s communication channels. Even Jenskot tried to hear the sounds. It was the voice of Stryfe.

“Stryfe here,” Christopher’s clone said. “We have been breached. Our base has been...” the channel ended. Every rebel feared that he might have died. Not that Cable would think of it because he knows that his twin brother would always survive.

“Stryfe!” Cable called out to him. “Stryfe!” There was still no answer. Cable looked towards his team. They all stood waiting for his orders.

“Let’s go,” Cable said. “We can’t stay any longer. We need to get to the base now.” They all shouted and nodded. Most of these soldiers were trained to fight for their very lives. They probably didn’t care what happens to them, as long as they win the war.

As the team went inside the tunnel, Cable remembered the time, when he was cared by his adoptive parents in this future timeline.

Year- 2000 A.D.

Location- X-Mansion. Salem Center, New York

Cable still ran through the hallways within the X-Mansion. He recalled the times, when his soldiers joined him in the fight against Apocalypse. They thought they could win the war. But their expectations failed enough that the men have fallen into the enemy’s trap.

That trap was about to be set by the rest of the Marauders, right here within these walls. Hank had no idea of what Cable went through, the dark times that affected him. Cable couldn’t even tell the details. That kind of information could terrify Beast, since he was a peaceful mutant.

The old soldier knows for the fact that Xavier wanted peace between humans and mutants in the first place. But that idea died in the mid-21st century. He had learned that a certain officer went rogue, who used to follow Xavier’s dream. It wasn’t easy stopping the madman. He had abilities of his own, and equipped enough to defeat his enemies. It took a while for Cable to beat that police office from another future timeline, and send him to another timeline, where no one was in sight.

Cable led those bad thoughts aside, and focused on the current mission. If anything happens to the baby, he would cease to exist. But the reason, he came here is that he hoped to prevent the Techno-Organic Virus from infecting his body. That way, he wouldn’t feel the pain. Every time he tried to use his mutant abilities, the pain occurs and sometimes drains his powers on a temporary basis.

Hank told Cable to stop for the moment. He panted, probably wanted to drink some water. But he raised his finger at the door, which lead to the Danger Room.

Cable remembered that room. He came there, and knew that there were two Marauders waiting for him, Scrambler and Vertigo.

They both went inside the Danger Room. There, they looked at the control room, where one of the Marauders was holding Xavier as hostage. Cable checked to see if Jean and the baby were around. There was none of them on sight.

Cable told Hank to be careful of the South Korean mutant. His powers not only affected superhuman and mutant powers, he can also affect electronic or mechanical systems, rendering them useless. Hank took a careful note of it. Cable also told him about Vertigo.

Vertigo used her ability to induce dizziness on the blue-furry Beast and Cable. But Cable wasn’t affected. He ran around the Danger Room, shooting Vertigo. When Vertigo got hit, Hank began to come back to his senses. He looked up, jumped around the area, and smashed the glass. He jumped over the controls and hit Prism, one of the Marauders, who held Xavier as hostage. Prism was a mutant whose crystalline body can reflect or deflect certain kinds of energy. Hank knows this, and thought the only way to defeat the crystalline Marauder is to beat him physically.

Hank used all his strength to punch and kick the Marauder. Prism tried to provoke Beast in using energy weapons, but it didn’t work. The blue-furry Beast threw the Marauder away from the control room. He fell down on the floor. Cable saw this as an opportunity, when he looked at Scrambler. He fired Prism at all times, the shots deflected, and they hit the South Korean mutant. Then he punched and kicked Prism away at Scrambler. Scrambler holds him, trying to make him leave. But Prism couldn’t move. He felt the hardness of his body like a glass was about to break. He got up slowly, watching as his body cracks. He cried out in pain. Then he was smashed into crystalline pieces.

Scrambler saw the outcome. He tried to run away, but Cable fired a single round at him.

Hank came closer to Xavier, asking him if he was fine. Xavier assured him that he wasn’t to be worried about. He had to let Jean and her son escape before the rest of the Marauders came looking for them. Xavier had to stay behind.

Cable saw the bald man, who believed that humans and mutants can live together in harmony. He didn’t have time to see the happy reunion. He had to continue his search. But Hank told him to stop. Xavier saw him, the old soldier of the future. He sensed that there was something in him.

“You...” Xavier said in his mind. “I know you. You look...familiar.”

“Yes, you can read my thoughts,” Cable said. “I know you’re a powerful telepath.”

“So are you,” Xavier said. “Tell me...Who are you? Why are you here?”

“I’m on a mission to save Christopher Summers.”

Xavier wanted to know his true identity. But all he can hear the name, Cable coming to his head. It seems that Cable was blocking Xavier’s thoughts.

“Look,” Cable continued speaking telepathically. “I’m going to look for Jean Grey and the baby. You and Hank stay here. I’ll do everything I can to save them. Trust me.”

Xavier agreed. He ended the telepathic link with the old soldier. Cable went ahead.

“What is it, Xavier?” Hank said, wondering if his mentor had known his true identity. “What do you know of him?”

“I...don’t know,” Xavier said. He knew that there was something familiar about him. He can feel it. “Whoever he is, I have a good feeling that he’s on our side.”

To be continued in Marvel Genesis: Cable, Chapter 5- On The Run.
