Ray Palmer suddenly became the most popular- and infamous- man in his neighborhood. And he didn't like it one bit. The junior scientist desperately ran toward his apartment, before he realized something. There were stairs leading to his apartment. And he was less than a nanometer tall. The first step to his home looked like a skyscraper, and he wondered how he would get up without attracting attention to himself, before he noticed a floating brown particle almost as large as his torso- dust!
It'd be impossible. There's no way it can happen. No. He thought to himself, turning away from the floating particle. About to leave, he turned and noticed a giant black creature that was at least five times his size, with big, terrorizing red eyes- little did Ray know it was just a fly.
Turning back around, Ray ran and jumped toward the piece of dust in a flurry of panic, sending it flying upward toward the apartment door. He looked back and saw the creature was occupying itself with the apartment's garbage bin- good. He didn't want to face anything like that again. Next, Ray's little fiasco with the dust particle led him to his door- where he encountered another problem. How to get in?
Thinking about this, he finally decided he'd have to make a jump for the keyhole- which looked like it was a mile away, even though it was just an inch. He'd have to do it quickly- the dust was already starting to float in the opposite direction he wanted it to go. Gulping in fear, Ray tensed as he prepared to make the jump, before finally leaping toward the gigantic keyhole.
Closing his eyes and extending his hands, Ray anticipated falling and splattering against the ground- but was extremely disappointed as his hand grabbed the edge of the keyhole. He was then dangling under the bright, golden keyhole, and laughed as he reached his other hand up to climb into it- nothing could go wrong for him now.
Or so he thought. As Ray turned to look at a gigantic smashing noise coming up from behind him, he noticed his next door neighbor- climbing up the steps and looking for his key. Panicking, Ray climbed up inside the keyhole and started running, but the inside of it was like a giant yellow maze, and he heard the scraping of the key going into the hole. Frantically he kept going until the key knocked into his backside, sending him flying out of the other end of the hole.
Now knowing he only had one chance to make the fall, Ray started to grow, and grow, and grow, till he was back to his normal height- it took him nearly all of his concentration to stop growing at a decent height.
The door then opened and his neighbor walked in, before seeing Ray and yelling out in shock- which surprised Ray.
"Mrs. Peterson?" He asked innocently, before remembering- he was naked! His clothes hadn't gotten smaller with him, and now he was standing right in front of his poor, sixty-seven year old neighbor.
"W-where are your clothes young man?" The old woman snapped, recovering from her shock.
"Sorry- guess I outgrew them." Ray laughed nervously, before turning and running.
Rushing into apartment number 220, Ray searched for some clothes, before finding a long trenchcoat and some old, navy-blue pants. Next, he looked around- seeing the trillions of atoms that made up his three-room apartment. It hardly had anything in it- an old TV set from the ninety's that could only show the local news, a microscope, an oak tabletop with overdue bills. He went over to the microscope and sat down next to it.
Grabbing a toothpick, he scraped off a small sliver of skin from his finger and put it under the microscope and looked inside of it- only to be surprised as he saw millions of smudges that didn't look like atoms at all. Zooming in, Ray focused the microscope before yelling, throwing the scope against the wall, and jumping back, panting as he thought of how it was possible.
He stood panting, before slowly walking over to the microscope. Picking it up and adjusting it so it could still work, he looked again- for what he saw in the microscope were millions of tiny smudges, that looked exactly like him.
Standing, Ray turned to leave- he needed to see the Professor.
MEANWHILE-
"Sylbert Rundine- expert serial killer." Professor Al Pratt said, as he looked to the murderer sitting across from his desk. He studied the brute of a man- six feet and three inches tall, two-hundred and fifty pounds of muscle. Perfect. "I need you to find Ray Palmer for me. And kill him." He said the last three words grimly.
The tall man sniffed as he rubbed his glowing silver bowie knife against his shin. "What'd the Shrinker ever do to you?" He said, pulling out a cigarette and lighting it- making his long black hair and handlebar mustache easily visible.
"That's not important!" Al Pratt suddenly snapped, jumping from his seat. Sylbert simply sat there, unimpressed by the burst of anger coming from his possible employer. However, he decided to move on anyway.
"And how do I catch the amazing Shrinking man?" Sylbert asked with a yawn- obviously bored. At this point, Al smiled, as he picked up a long belt with a glowing blue center in the middle.
"Well, I suppose you'll have to shrink too."
