Basics:
created a world, some 200 years in the future where the whole world is under the thrall of a sinister tyrant known as the Supreme Commander. The only bastions of hope is New Latveria, a country comprising of most of the Baltic states & parts of Russia ruled by Dr Doom which stands tall and defiant against the Iron Army; and the dozens of new heroes standing up to tyranny.
How?
Well way back when Stryfe decided to put a plan in motion to take over the world, not by force but through telepathy, hypnotic suggestions and ownership. He used his powers to force people to sign over their companies and built a bigger, super company called Ferrum. While this was happening he ingrained himself with the US military and into a position of power. Thus controlling technology & military he set himself up. Also he made a deal with Mr Sinister who tinkered with his DNA to make him virtually ageless.
Using acquired Tony Stark technology the army, slowly becoming known as the Iron Army, began exerting it’s will across the planet; first locally then globally. Super villains were targeted first due to Stryfe not wanting to share with anyone, leaving the heroes with little to do and getting the populace onside by keeping them ‘safe’. By the time the heroes realised they had been duped it was too late.
The Iron Army attacked the X-Mansion in what was known as the April Incident, an event that put another nail in the coffin of the heroic age. Heroes were felled, it wasn’t until an overweight, out of shaped Spider-Man took on the Iron Army in Times Square that the world saw for the first time that they had willingly put themselves under the rule of a dictator. Peter’s death inspired the Spider movement; cells of families with powers who do their part to help people it even changed Loki to being a nicer person.
Ferrum used all the stolen technologies from some of the premier thinkers of the age and using plans drawn up by Reed Richards, created the BiFrost Cannon which essentially trapped the Asgardians in ghost-like form in Asgard unable to help the inhabitants of Midgard. The same was applied to Mt Olympus. The Eternals were taken down and most used as batteries, cheap unending power as they were immortal. Even the dread lord Dormammu was imprisoned in a device that essentially cut Earth off from extraterrestrial help.
Dr Doom became the world’s only hope and saviour. He ruled New Latveria as its king, though harsh it was better than the rest of the world who were under the thumb of the Iron Army. The borders of New Latveria and Iron Army ruled countries like China, New Germany & United Kingdom of Scandinavia were hotspots of fighting. The Chechyen DMZ is a country that both sides essentially raped with experimental weapons, chemicals and bizarre creations.
Stryfe adopted the dual guise of The Supreme Commander: ruler of the Iron Army and The Chairman: the head of Ferrum. Most people are oblivious that it’s the same person. He occasionally used LMD’s when both are required at events or when he can’t be bothered, which is becoming increasingly frequent.
But the seeds of change are always growing. Carol Danvers is the head of SHIELD. She took the Infinity Formula along with several other SHIELD agents who essentially run a terrorist network to undermine and bring down the Iron Army from inside America.
Other heroes have also stepped up: some old, some new. All hoping that one day, they will be free.
Terms & Phrases
Stark: Stark is a swear word. It is used in many contexts such as you’re starked, stark me, starkhole, stark for brains etc. Only really old people use normal swearing
Nutcage: Crazy, silly, stupid eg you’re a nutcage
I-Dent: Identity cards that most everyone has. Iron Soldiers often demand them when talking to people.
Holo-pad/screen/phone: 3D holographic technology
Hovertruck/car/bike etc: Hovering technology, it’s the future after all, but there are still a lot of wheeled transport due to the expense of hover-tech.
Who is who in the Iron Army zoo?
Stryfe/Supreme Commander/The Chairman: Absolute ruler of Earth. His telepathy & telekinesis, along with his mystically enchanted armour make him almost unstoppable. Backed by an army of thousands, a sea of technology and some elite powered bodyguards and assassins, he is extremely dangerous.
Iron Claw: The Supreme Commander’s personal bodyguard and premier killing machine of the Iron Army. Was adopted by The Supreme Commander when he was found eating people in the Chechyen DMZ. Bonded with adamantium and given cybernetic razor hands. He is a zealot for the Supreme Commander. Has standing orders to flay, amputate and drag Cut Throat back to the Supreme Commander.
General Falcon Helfitta: A high ranking general in the Iron Army. Recently had his left arm torn off during the Wide-Awake battles. Loyal, hard working, no-nonsense soldier. Hates Scalphunter & Cut Throat
Scalphunter: Head of the European Assassination Division. Gerald Wimple is a mutant with a healing factor. He is the best assassin on the planet, just ask him, and is borderline insane, well he thinks he’s eccentric. Exceptional hand-to-hand skills. Went through ‘assassin school’ with Falcon Helfitta and Cut Throat, whom he hates with a passion!
Cut Throat: Head of the American Assassination Division. Bishop Cain aka Mortimer is an assassin built and rebuilt with tech from Mr Sinister. Vicious, petty, evil to the core and constantly trying to get out from Scalphunter’s shadow. He hates everyone because he thinks he’s better than them.
Jessica Mongoose: Beautiful auburn haired member of the Supreme Commander’s elite. Can control pheromones through her luxurious hair. Defeated Magni in combat and once was a member of the Wild Pack before her time in the Iron Army. Frenemies-arch rivals with Silver Sable.
Dr Nathaniel Essex/Mr Sinister: The X-Men villain turned power behind the throne. Gave Stryfe his immortality. Spent his time experimenting and creating creatures, doing medical procedures on the population and other things that only the warped geneticist would understand and had a massive complex at Maryland to do so. Recently has become at odds with the Iron Army and is up to something.
Dr Imck Prince: Head of Project Thunder and in charge of the Thunderbolts, cyborgs built around brainwashed immortals like Hercules, Sersi & Wonder Man.
Desmond Fisk: Head of Ferrum New York. More businessman than scientist he runs Ferrum like his own little country.
Dr Miles Warren: New head of the Maryland Medical Institute & Asylum formerly run by Mr Sinister. An eager, cocksure scientist with ambitions possibly above his skills.
Major Beyonce Hwjang, Lanzhou Iron Hall: Stationed in China, on the trail of Ghost Rider.
Master Sergeant Natalee Toomes: Head of the NY Iron Hall’s Hunter Division. Has had run in’s with the Scarlet Spider.
Iron Soldiers: Men in usually black, Iron Man armour that patrol cities and are the grunts of the Iron Army.
Hunters: Specialised Iron Soldiers in mutant resistant armour.
Iron Sentinels: Massive robotic soldiers, devastating shock & awe troops
Iron Hall: Located all across the world, the Iron Hall is the base of operations for the local garrison of Iron Soldiers. Each one is similar, though bigger cities have bigger Iron Hall’s sometimes several. It is part prison, police station, army base and symbol of oppression.
Who’s Who in not playing by the Iron Army’s rules?
Darius Stane/Distain: The “son of Nicodemus; son of Samuel; son of Zachariah; son of Ezra; son of Jeremiah; son of Solomon; son of Ezekial; son of Obadiah” The great x9 descendant of Iron Man villain. Darius wears the Supremis Techno Organic Armour which is a superior version of the Extremis Armour. Darius is essentially a super villain but now questioning his place in the world. Has been at loggerheads with Scalphunter, Exodus, Ares, Carol Danvers and even made an attack on the Supreme Commander himself.
Daniel Warstar: A gay, mutant member of the plains, and descended from the Native American superheroes of old, Daniel Warstar is on the path to becoming the new sorcerer supreme. Finding out his powers were magic not mimicry has led Daniel to meet the ghost of Dr Stephen Strange, acquire a ring of the Mandarin, wield an Asgardian hammer, fight Thanos and try to solve problems with talking and actual do-gooding.
Corporal America/Nicholas Rogers: A descendant from the illegitimate child of Captain America and Diamondback, Nicholas Rogers use to be an Iron Soldier. He did his job and was content, until a raid on a Spider cell started him questioning. He was nearly killed, shipped off to Maryland and experimented on. Carol Danvers had the Shiver Man rescue him and inform Nicholas that he was actually a bad guy! It took a while to accept, he’s still adjusting to his new life. Trained by Master Izo in combat he got on his hoverbike and rode off into the sunset after the disastrous Fantastic Force mission.
Magni: Son of Thor, son of Odin, son of Bor. Sent to earth to destroy the BiFrost cannon and allow Asgard to extract revenge upon the Iron Army and its master. Tricked, beaten and outnumbered the thunder god has yet to complete his mission. Recently he was shunted back to Asgard and his brother Modi took his place and was killed by Scalphunter during the Fantastic Force mission. Magni waits impatiently, trapped in Asgard
Scarlet Spider: Kaine Reilley’s parents dobbed him into the Iron Army for being a spider and they got killed when he was getting arrested. Kaine adopted the Scarlet Spider guise and attacked the New York Iron Hall, punching on with Master Sergeant Toomes. Joined the terrible Fantastic Force mission. Last seen in Arizona
Dr Doom: Former villain turned king and saviour. Ruler of New Latveria, a collective of countries that flocked under his protection. Dr Doom kept alive by imprinting himself onto new 18yr old boys, staying young and himself as to counter the threat of an eternal enemy. Recently Dr Doom sacrificed himself to take out Thanos and handing the reins of power to Carol Danvers, making her Queen of New Latveria.
Carol Danvers: Nearly 200yrs old but looking in her mid forties Carol took Infinity Formula with several other SHIELD agents and continued the fight against the rising Iron Army. She led them up until recently when Dr Doom made her Queen; Carol believes this to be a punishment/joke by the former villain since running an entire country is a lot harder than running a resistance network.
Augustus Holland: SHIELD commander, now in charge after Carol’s departure. He and Carol had/have a thing, but it’s very complicated. Augustus runs SHIELD now, recruiting new members and re-establishing old cells after a lot of SHIELD went with Carol to New Latveria.
Ngumi Takada: Former SHIELD agent, now travelling the globe. Beautiful and deadly, she was soundly beaten by Scalphunter and nearly killed. Years ago she ran the Wild Pack, a mercenary group. Currently in San Francisco and has stumbled across something big and dangerous.
Silver Sable/LeannSchmidt: A mercenary-assassin-data runner who works for the highest bidder, usually SHIELD & New Latveria. Able to summon darkforce energy blades and teleport via the Darkforce dimension. Lives in Cuba. Ngumi is the godmother of her twins.
Anthony Salazar/Hawkeye: A member of Barton’s Travelling Circus before it was blown up by a disgruntled Iron Soldier. Anthony went into New York to get revenge when his face, actually his twin brother’s Alexander, was on all the wanted holo-screens. He was arrested for a traffic violation, escaped thanks to Anatoly Vanko and went on a cross country adventure. Headed back into New York to find his brother and kill him.
Anatoly Vanko: A New Latverian escapologist who was in the prison van with Anthony and engineered their escape. Went on the cross country adventure before heading to Pittsburgh to gain his birthright; a massive Crimson Dynamo suit of armour. Last headed for Minneapolis to join SHIELD.
X-Faction: A team of mutants travelling the US sabotaging Ferrum & Iron Army outposts. Consisting of Cam Evans aka The Shocker, Alyssa aka Zephyr, Drake aka Ghost and Tank. Had a run in with the mad mutant Exodus and are currently in St Louis.
Daimon Hellstrom/Hellstorm: The undisputed ruler of the Nether-Hells. Daimon cut a deal with Stryfe to scratch each other’s back. Daimon works his own agenda, for his own reasons, recently trapping Dormammu inside a young Chinese man Dhanny Bezchalk. Daimon is on HIS side.
Ghost Rider/Dhanny Bezchalk: Tricked into being bonded with the dread lord Dormammu by Daimon Hellstrom, Dhanny was trying to get medicine for his sick girlfriend. Teamed up with the Winter Soldier to take on an Iron Army patrol
Now there are many others: War Machine, Venom, Ares, Mr Immortal, Cannonball, Seven, David Hardy, Hellcat, Morbius, Perun, Daredevil, Spider-Man, The Wrecking Crew, Alan Bryce, Lt Amanda Trask, The Exiles, Moon Knight, Beta Ray Bill, Mockingbird, Master Izo, Bezull, but this is/was an overview to get people to read what we’ve done.

Why'd I write this? I know people see Marvel Iron Age stories, possibly read them but are put off when they see part 12 of something. Hopefully this makes it clearer and easier for you to jump onboard. And that it sparks a flurry of activity, comments and reading of our Marvel Iron Age. It’s good!
