They're NOT the World's Greatest Superheroes!
Summary:
The all powerful Wind Duster! The mighty Freight Train! And the enigmatic Dark Arrow! Formed together due to events that are better left unspoken and lead by the brain power of CBTF Director, Morris Pfeifer, the Response are a team of the World's Greatest Heroes!
(This series takes place two weeks AFTER the events of Wind Duster #28 and while it's not required reading... you should read it anyway. But read this first.)
5 Days into the future...
Explosions scorched through the air similar to hell itself opening up from the ground. It had been a somewhat sunny day earlier (unique for Indigo City), yet the once bright blue sky had been replaced with thick clouds of black ash.
"This is amazing." Toby Burrows, cameraman for Channel 6 Action News muttered to himself as he filmed the chaos taking place before him with a somewhat shaky camera. If anyone was watching at home it probably seemed similar to a fight scene out of a Matthew Vaughan movie. Four figures stood before Toby, three of them were surrounding the final figure and attacking him with almost startling ferocity. Toby had seen the final guy on TV before, he called himself... the Axe-Man and was commonly referred to as a Supervillain. Whatever that was. He swung his large, metal axe at his opponents with obvious displays of sheer physical power.
The other three figures were an utter mystery to the young cameraman though. If they'd been on TV he couldn't recall their names. One of the figures was dressed head to toe in what seemed to be black armour and was carrying a black, recurve bow. The figure was thin, almost sickly looking... and atop his head he had waves of thick black hair.
In the air directly above the battle was the most conventionally dressed of the quartet, the man (Toby was assuming it was a man) was dressed in a skin tight costume with a black and blue colour scheme, the man's face was covered in a blue mask and as the figure plummeted towards the ground he let loose blasts of what seemed to be powerful waves of solid air slamming down towards his target. A negative side effect of these blasts was that they happened to send the cape attached to the man's shoulder flapping around uncontrollably, somewhat ruining the man's heroic appearance.
Finally, stood planted on the ground tanking all of the Axe-Man's blows was a large, beef cake of a man, ripped with muscles similar to that of a Sumo wrestler and outfitted in a bright red costume, the man's gigantic fist crashed directly into the Axe-Man's chest sending him tumbling to the ground yelling in pain.
The dust cleared from the battle and the three victors stood amongst the rubble, behind them the Axe-Man lay slumped in defeat, bruises forming around his skin from the battle.
"Who ARE you?" Toby asked. His camera steadily filming the trio as they seemed to stand heroicly on the edges of the small crater they had formed.
"Who are we?" The caped figure repeated. He stepped forward and placed his fists at his side giving off a somewhat heroic pose. "We're the Response! The World's Greatest Su-"
Before the masked man could finish his dramatic description of himself and his colleagues he was interrupted by the loud, wet, popping sound of the Axe-Man's skull exploding directly behind him, spraying blood all over the surrounding area. The black armoured figure put away his smoking pistol and stared at his shocked teammates before sighing and looking straight towards the camera.
"We're the Response." He said dryly as though he was reading off a script. "The World's-"
This time the description was interrupted by the sounds of his teammates screaming in horror.

Now.
"It's perfect."
January Morgan couldn't help but smirk at the amount of energy generating from her boss, Morris Pfeifer as the two of them walked down the hallway leading to Pfeifer's office.
"ABsoLUTEly perfect!" Pfeifer repeated before opening the doors to his office and stepping inside, Morgan quickly followed him and shrugged off the offer of a drink from Pfeifer's receptionist, Perry.
"I agree sir." She said before sighing, the amount of energy almost exhausting her. "The timing does seem relatively spectacular." Pfeifer grinned as he sat down behind his desk and adjusted a small picture laid before him. It showed a younger Pfeifer with his daughter. Before the madness started and everything that ever made sense came to an end.
"Superheroes, Ms Morgan. That's what's big at the moment."
Morgan nodded her head. "Agreed, sir. What with all the movies coming out at the moment." She glanced at the News footage on the TV next to her, showing the destroyed remains of the New York Skyscraper once known as Beneforce along with the cheering crowds directly beneath it. "...and the events of New York." She added quickly. "Superheroes should be just the thing to help boost the CBTF's public ratings."
"I've sorted out a list of applicants." Pfeifer said quickly, seemingly ignoring the last part of Morgan's sentence. He handed several files to his head of Public Relations and his trusted Ms Morgan took them carefully before skimming through them.
"All of these people said, 'yes'?" She asked with an ounce of surprise in her voice.
"All of them."
Morgan glanced at the last file in the pile which showed the picture of a brown haired individual posing with his wife and daughter.
"Even Brooks?"
Pfeifer nodded. "Get started with the interviews, Ms Morgan." He instructed. "We have a tight schedule." January Morgan nodded before moving towards the exit, however just before opening the door she paused... and looked back towards her superior. "And whatever you do... try to make sure Wind Duster doesn't get on the team." He stopped himself when January glanced at him for further information. "We need members that are a bit more... subtle."
"Would you like me to start brainstorming some names, sir?" She asked. "For the team?" Pfeifer shook his head.
"I've got one." He told her. "The Response." Pfeifer span around in his chair and looked at the view of Indigo City from his window, as soon as he heard Ms Morgan leave his office he smiled to himself once more. "It'll be the best thing since sliced bread." He mumbled before leaning back and relaxing in his chair.
