New DEATHSTROKE Ongoing Series Announced

Deathstroke is hot right now. Besides being the "character of the month" here, voted by the community, he's been racking up the hits and points all over the place. With major recent appearances in Arrow and appearances in video games such as Batman: Arkham Origins and Injustice: Gods Among Us, it seems like everyone can't get enough of the merc.

In October, we'll all be able to get even more.

It's been announced that a new series will debut in October, written and drawn by Tony Daniel.

What I find interesting and why I wanted to write (and draw) Deathstroke, is the opportunity I have to make people give a damn about his missions and motivations. Giving readers a reason to invest emotionally in this guy’s missions and stories is what I think will make a difference for this new title and is key for me and one of my main goals.

This book will be cancelled just like every other Deathstroke book. I love Tony's art but his writing leaves a lot to be desired. Just look at his writing on Batman.

Awesome! A character like Deathstroke, it's a wonder he hasn't had an awesome series all along. Hope this one turns out great.

Be glad you're one of the fans who hasn't noticed Tony Daniels' writing my friend. His artwork is gorgeous, one of the best in the industry and DC are lucky to have him. His writing...leaves a lot to be desired. It's clunky, unoriginal and not particularly entertaining. He's written a Pre New 52 Batman run when Dick Grayson was Batman and that wasn't so good. His early Detective Comics run in the New 52 wasn't entertaining and he turned Andy Diggle's one issue masterpiece from Action Comics 19 into a mediocre ending. If Daniels was just doing the art, I'd be very happy for Deathstroke fans. As it stands, this might not be such good news.

I have to say, I love the pic. It's a mix of armored badass Deathstroke yet streamlined a little. I'm also a sucker for the chainmail. Deathstroke should totally switch up his look for different missions.

Remember what happened last time Tony wrote a B-list character? yeah it got cancelled fast. Not too keen on the news,should've given writing duties to the Arkham Manor guy,and wonder what this means for Superman/Wonder Woman.

As for the announcement... well, I was reading Detective Comics at the start of the New 52... but not for very long. So, yeah. He's a decent artist though.

Yeah, Deathstroke looks like a real badass. Also the red sky and lightning kinda remind me of Hush which just adds to the already high cool factor.

Daniel is mediocre as a writer... Can't DC hire one writer from Image for this series? Those guys are on fire!

I don't think it's unreasonable to read the first issue before writing it off, is it? If you're skeptical, that's fine, but at least give it a shot before being so confident it'll be bad, you know?

Ha, no! I'm so happy this news didn't break while I was working on the article yesterday. Would've been a total waste of my time!

I really enjoyed Higgins' take on the character. Hopefully this new run will be just as good.

I get invested in one of their lower level books that isn't about a member of the Justice League and as soon as I really start getting into it, it's over. This happened to me with Demon Knights, Blue Beetle, Manhunter, Static Shock etc.

I know he didn't write the original Deathstroke series when New52 launched but I think it's overal a decent template to why I don't think a Deathstroke on going won't work. Which is to say nothing of the fact aht DC essentially what would be limited series as ongoings even though we all know they'll likley not get pass 8-12.

Still hey a good Deathstroke book would be cool.
