I want Nightwing to cameo in the Batman solo movie in a big badass way then get a solo film. He is right on the edge of breaking out big and a cameo is all he needs. Past that I really feel his solo movie would make money. He is the best things about Batman and Spider-man and once the larger movie going audience sees that it is all uphill.
Yeah, we need to see something big on Nightwing's part in the Solo Batman movie. I'd say, have Batman is a situation where he can't save himself and he is doomed, then have Dick save him. In this scene, Dick would have to look more badass than Batman. This will show the non-comicbook readers how epic of a character Nightwing is. He's like Batman's body and Spiderman's attitude. If enough people like Nightwing in the solo Batman movie, he will have a higher budget in his own movie. Dick is the best part of Batman. Most people don't know, but Dick turned, "The Cave," into the Batcave. He turned, "The Car," into the Batmobile. Same with everything else. He made Batman cool.
This is what I would do. Marvel has the right idea, when they introduced Spiderman in Civil War. Just show a few scenes of him, and then leave the audience wanting more. So maybe they should show us a few epic Nightwing scenes, and then he leaves. Then Alfred could make a snarky comment about Dick like, "At least he says thank you when I offered him cookies." or something like that.
