Many fans of the character have been enjoying Tony Stark in Marvel NOW!'s Iron Man series, but how will they feel when the series takes a whole new direction? Earlier today Marvel unveiled their plans to take Tony Stark to outer space in the series currently being written by writer Kieron Gillen and illustrated by Greg Land. What will Iron Man do in space, you ask? It seems we will have to find out in February when it all goes down in IRON MAN #6, set to hit stores on 2/6/12.

IRON MAN #6

No Caption Provided
This February, Tony Stark soars into space in your first look at Iron Man #6, kicking off the all-new arc “God-Killer” by the blockbuster creative team of writer Kieron Gillen and artist Greg Land! Suit up for an all-new, all-different direction for the Armored Avenger as he’s branded guilty for a crime he didn’t know he committed! Just when he thought the events of Avengers VS. X-Men and the seeming death of the Phoenix Force was in the rear view mirror – Iron Man’s first trip into space with his new suit of armor may end in the flames that he thought were extinguished! As part of Marvel NOW!, Iron Man continues to be a part of a line of titles that are taking the Marvel Universe in an exciting all-new direction, as the industry’s top creators join the top Super Heroes to deliver all-new ongoing series, great for new and lapsed readers alike!

Also from the preview it looks like a set up for a Star Wars crossover. I wouldnt be surprised since Disney went on a nice spending spree.

It's even worse that the GotG are going to be an Earth based team now because Bendis thinks "space is  unrelatable" that's like totally against what the Guardians stand for.

Gillen's run on Iron Man so far has done absolutely nothing for me...which is a shame, cause I loved Fraction's run before him. I'm hoping the new arc or something in the close future clicks for me and makes me enjoy it more...but as of right now, bored to tears with Iron Man.

I totally agree. They were not about one corner of the universe it was the larger universe. It's dumb to say it wasn't relatable because you still basically deal with the same things. Love, betrayal, fighting the bad guy, wars, death. Nothing that was done in the past was so far out you couldn't relate to it in some way. What they are doing is taking an aspect away from the book which is how the universe is so much bigger and how it doesn't revolve around Earth. Earth is just a small speck in the universe.

Exactly. the GotG would protect Earth just as much as they would Halla or Xandar or even one of the Skrull homeworlds and if just the idea of "space" is unrelatible then why are all the past cosmic stuff so popular?

@Jonny_Anonymous: Man Bendis said that? For years I've always hated when people say that Marvel is better than DC because Marvel characters are "relateable" and i would always think about how stupid that argument is because if something is written well enough then it will be relateable. And now Bendis pulls this crap line? Hey your a high ranking member of a company nicknamed the "House of Ideas" If you can't space "relateable" quit and hire someone who can.

"Many fans of the character have been enjoying Tony Stark in Marvel NOW!'s Iron Man series"

Really? I was under the impression that Iron Man is the worst Marvel NOW! title out there. I haven't read it personally though, so I wouldn't know.

@Jonny_Anonymous said:

Same...he just doesn't fit with the rest of the team. I'm willing to give it a chance though. It also serves to connect newcomers of the Guardians of the Galaxy to the more mainstream, recognizable characters of the Marvel Universe. Also, knowing Marvel, it's probably a way to create more synergy between the comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film and their likely appearance in Avengers 2.

I LOVE Gillen's work. Iron Man is my favorite character.

I can't stand this book. A new direction might be what this book needs. Or maybe this whole Guardians of the Galaxy thing will completely destroy him.

So Thor has "The God Butcher", Stark has "God-Killer"...

Is Cap going to get "God Slayer"? Captain Marvel with "God Hunter"?

What I meant when I said "It also serves to connect newcomers of the Guardians of the Galaxy" was that it will help people that are new to the Guardians of the Galaxy or haven't ever read any of their comics. Not that the team was new themselves.

Besides, the reboot of the team has only been around for four years. Ever since Annihilation: Conquest in 2008. It's my understanding that the original incarnation of the team from 1969 has nothing to do with the current re-booted team, and didn't even take place in the main Marvel Universe.

I'm really digging this series so far because of the writing, but seeing the art is just disappointing every single time. If he goes to space, then that might limit the number of humans he interacts with, and that can only be a plus in the art category. Maybe he will find a race of clones who have developed odd facial habits, Greg Land can do that, write to the artist's strengths Kieron!

When I was younger their was a cartoon series where when Optimus Prime wasn't fighting his front mouth protector piece wouldn't be on his face and his face kind of looked like Iron-man's face here. But its just my opinion.
