@lcazt1996: because he isn't the wally I know and love and they changed him instead of making a new character just to be "diverse" which is so very stupid
Oh and they turned him into a stereotyped black teen. So there's that.
Okay 1. IT'S A REBOOT. That's just how it's going to be. I know it sucks sometimes, but just accept it and move on.
2. Every single time a company changes a character, they're accused of "diversity for the sake of diversity", which I don't think is quite fair. Why do there need to be 1000s of prominent white main characters, while there are only a handful of ANY other ethnicity's main characters. Some would say "Well just introduce a new character!" ... It really isn't that simple. It's just a fact of life that new characters, unless they pick up a mantle that has been passed down (Robin, Kid Flash, Wonder Girl, Flash, Batman, Ronin, Captain America, etc.), aren't as immediately popular as established characters. And if they want a prominent character of a non-straight/white/male background, a lot of times they'll probably have to introduce them as a previously established character whenever a reboot happens...or in the case of sexual orientation, you don't even have to change the character that much.
3. Again, we've only seen him IN A TOTAL OF TWO ISSUES. Sure in those first appearances he seemed like a stereotypical black teen, but people change. Characters change. I think that's the whole point of Iris introducing Wally to Barry, is so he doesn't STAY a stereotypical black teen.
Basically, everyone needs to get the twist out of their panties and move the hell on because it's just the way it is.
1. I know it's a reboot, that's besides the point. It's the fact that Wally has been getting screwed at DC for years. Why? All so they can make Barry look better. Look at Flash:Rebirth the whole thing was just Barry sucking, and what happened after that. Wally became irrelevant, with no books and no hope in sight. They reboot the universe, and what happens? They leave him out just so they can make Barry get the spot light. What they did to Wally was just disrespectful to the character and his fans.
2. It isn't that hard. You're telling me that they can promote Superman 32, and Batman with the old Flash team for month on end, Giving them double panels to promote it, showing the first couple of pages of the bool, all the make people read it, but they can't do the same for a new character to bring new readers is? Whats sense does that make? How lazy is that? You can make a new character without changing Wally. Is he getting his own book? No. He's on Barry sideline. So how can't they do that with a new character? What is so hard about that?
You want to have diversity? That's fine, give Static a new book, give Black Lightning his own book give Rocket or Icon their own book. You have a multitude of ethnic characters in your vault that you aren't willing to use, because why? Hell bring back XS, she's a speedster and Barry's granddaughter. What hard about that?
3. Yes, have a stereotypical black character be even more stereotypical by having a WHITE MAN come in and take him under his wing to make him a better person. How much better is that than what they have now? Oh, it is the same thing they have now. You're talking about Barry making him a non-stereotypical black teenager, when it's making him even more stereotyped. Oh, woe is me, I am a young underprivileged black youth going down a criminal path, and I need the guidance of a white man to make me a better person. How much better is that? You need a white person to make you change, instead of your own race? You need him to be a troubled youth? Why? What logical point is there to this? I love when black people have new characters, hell I am all for that I'm black. But when you go about it the wrong way, and make us look even worse. I do not support that at all.
Yes, it's a reboot. But they can at least be smart about it. Unlike what they have been doing now. You want new characters to sell. Do what Marvel did and promote them. And people wonder why they are outselling DC on all fronts, when their whole business strategy is better than theirs.
