The Squadron is back! Bigger, better and more evil than ever! This June, the bad guys come out to play! Today, Marvel is pleased to present your first look at SQUADRON SINISTER #1 – an all-new Secret Wars series from writer Marc Guggenheim (Arrow Executive Producer) and artist Carlos Pacheco (Captain America). Hyperion, Nighthawk, Whizzer, Doctor Spectrum and Warrior Woman. Together they make up the deadliest team of villains Battleworld has ever seen. Lording over their domain of Utopolis, they dispense devastating justice to any and all in their path. But will controlling just Utopolis be enough to feed their lust for power? Threats from without and threats from within seek to undo everything Hyperion and his gang have built. Rulers from other domains mobilize against them. Devastating lies and secrets from within the Squadron threaten to tear the team asunder. And seeds sown here bear bitter fruit for the future of the Marvel Universe! The measuring stick for evil just changed and the Squadron Sinister are it! Can anyone stop them? They’ll certainly try. Be there when Battleworld quivers beneath their might in SQUADRON SINISTER #1 this June!

The comic series I have been waiting forever for. Cannot wait to see how this plays out as i have been a Squadron fan for as long as I can remember.

King Hyperion v. Doctor Zero......Wow!

(and was that an Ironman flying off in one of those panels?)

So this question probably has an obvious answer, but I'm guessing Squadron Sinister is Marvel's version of DC's Crime Syndicate

@delphic: Ironically they were actually based on the actual Justice League. I think they might pre-date the Syndicate.

The Squadron Supreme/Sinister that fought the Ultimates and FF were cooler, and they kept calling the Ultimates the Avengers as they'd fought them in the 70's.

Hyperion was a bad ass in that series.

I hope 616 Hyperion somehow comes back and owns these clowns.

Definitely going to buy.

@supremehyperion: ME TOO DUDE. This book looks really interesting, and it's continuing past Secret Wars and into "8 Months Later". I also think Marvel is doing a lot of smart things with this event: they are letting themselves create interesting new stories and such so that they can implement those things into the future and make less popular characters interesting.

Is it becoming an ongoing?

No. The Syndicate came first. By about 5 years.

@micah: Marvel has said that it will continue past SW in some form, along with Weirdworld, 1872 (don't know how they are going to do that). Every book implements something: sometimes the book continues (Squadron Sinister, Weirdworld, A-Force). Other times it's elements that stay. Other time it's characters, for example: Maestro, the evil hulk from Future Imperfect is going to be in this New MU

Squadron Supreme (from 1985, aka, the original Kingdom Come) was a story based on the idea that The Squadron Sinister (from 1969) were heroes in a parallel dimension.

So, this Hyperion (the original? if the term applies here) was always a villain.

Hyperion shouldn't have been powerful enough to vaporize Squadron Supreme Hyperion like that. If that's what happened.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. He must have gotten one hell of an upgrade to kill that version of Hyperion as effortlessly as he did.

I agree, and seeing as how Squadron Supreme Hyperion has a black eye, and Hyperion doesn't seem in condition seems off to me. They both seem to be of the same level of power, more or less.

No. That's legit. Squadron Supreme was a great read, but compared to the traditional versions of these characters, the squadron supreme is relatively week.

Yeah, but that version of Hyperion who is defeating SSH isn't so powerful himself. Didn't he have trouble with Vision in the past physically?

@teerack: I am basing it off of the glimpse of Battleworld in Secret Wars #2 and the previews I've seen so far. Perhaps it is the premise I'm not keen on, but I am excited for Squadron Sinister. So I am holding out hope for some of the titles.

@heirtothekingdom: This is also a "new" Squadron Sinister so to speak I believe. This isn't the one's from the early avenger days. Even in the description of the series it calls them Battleworlds "Deadliest" villains.

Also in another preview I saw it shows a panel where Hyperion is referred to as "King Hyperion" so his possible levels could be through the roof.

I'm pumped

I hope Doctor Zero from Shadowline doesn't get his ass handed to him by Hyperion. It seems like the more realistic the character from a more realistic universe would get killed really easy by a more fantastical character like the Hulk or Superman.

Plus, Squadron Sinister-Hyperion is pretty much an evil Superman...
