First Look: NOVA #1

If you were keeping up with AVX, then you probably recall the appearance of Nova. Earlier today Marvel unveiled the preview to an all-new, upcoming series titled NOVA which will be written by Jeph Loeb with art by Ed McGuinness. Good luck kid, you have some big boots to fill. That said, considering what the Nova CORPS is supposed to stand for, a intergalactic force of everymans who rise to the occasion, well, I wouldn't mind seeing that arc again with a new face.

Nova is my favorite comic book character. But not Sam, Richard all the way.

Man I can't say I like the idea of some kid dealing with the weight and scope of cosmic issues. Nova barely handled it in the DnA run from years back. Having a kid make such universe altering decisions? Not so much. On another aspect though, I did like Loeb's Batman work so it could be great. It just couldn't work with this character if I were writing it(if I wrote it even I wouldn't buy it). And did anyone else think of Batman li'l Gotham when they saw that first cover of nova flying at you? Weeee! Hahaha

@Mucklefluga: right, so we'll just erase one of you'r long standing favourite characters and replace him with a random no-name character just for the LOLs, bet you wouldn't be bothered by that at all.

Pathetic how people here are just going to hate the book because "It's not Richard Rider." Same reason why people hate the new Flash series: "It's not Wally West." it's sad. Now I just expect this book to be very "meh" because of two words: Jeph. Loeb. The worst to expect from this new series is that Sam will be so powerful that he can't lose. Just like Red Hulk during his run on Hulk. But at least my problem with the book goes to Loeb instead of "Not Richard Rider=I hate the book & Marvel is filled with hacks wah-wah"

Ill read for a few issues, and if i like it, ill continue. But i miss Richard Rider...sigh..

don't kno much about Nova, but I do like Loeb and Mcguiness

I thought Loeb wasn't writing anymore? I've never been a huge fan of most of his stuff, and I am kinda skeptical on him writing Nova. Obviously, I'll give it a try (mostly because I am hoping that Richard Rider will come back to life and take over the book :P)

As for Sam Alexander....you best not be awful...

I don't necessarily hate Sam but its kinda like " if it aint broke don't fix it". Bring Richard back.

It's not just that, it's the whole thing. The Nova Force was destroyed so Sam and this Corps he has here shouldn't even exist.

I'm a little interested but Loeb..... man, hearing that word makes me doubt

@DJ1107: I'm sure people are not enjoying the flash for other reasons that it's not Wally West. Flash fans are used to change(see Jay Garrick and Barry Allen).

While I probably won't like it for all the reasons already mentioned especially the continuity issues, I'll probably pick it up so I can complain about it properly.

Not too pumped for new kid Nova as a whole but this art is amazing... I'll check it out for the sole fact it involves Marvel Cosmics :)

I'm pretty sure that people would be more open to the Concept of Sam if Loeb wasn't writhing. Shoot the reason why the reaction to the Miles Morials as the new Spider-man wasn't as bad as it could of been is because Loeb had nothing to do with it.

well If Jeph wasn't writing Nova then this version wouldn't exist, Sam Alexander is based off of Sam Loeb, Jeph's son

Seriously, Ed McGuinness and I'm in...Jeph Lobe I like, sometimes disappointing but I'm still excited for this seriesand this new kid Sam Alexander as Nova. But seriously NOVA IS (kinda) BACK!

Loeb destroys everything he touches, he never cares about continuity and he always comes off as extremely egotistical at conventions. He's often the first person to throw pot shots at DC comics when everyone in the audience reads both Marvel and DC.

Like many other posters before me I want Rider back, and more importantly I want an explanation on what happened at the end of thanos imperitive. I want some reference to nova and star lord fighting thanos in the cancerverse beyond just acting like it didn't happen.

This looks absolutely amazing. I am not used to space stuff, but I will definitely be giving this the look-see. I like Sam and his powers in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon (which needs to hurry up and come back, by the way).

Can't wait until it drops. Speaking of Ultimate Spider-Man, I want a comic featuring the new Power Man and White Tiger already!

The only exposure I've had to Nova is in the new Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon and I honestly found the character pretty entertaining, plus I like the art and concept of what I've seen, so I'll at least be giving this a shot and maybe following it in trade.

I really do not understand why they would switch from Richard Rider in the first place, he was central to the recent events in the cosmic line, and its the best run they have had in decades. Only Marvel would have a critically acclaimed run that sold well, only to shelve it, then make changes for no good reason.

I can understand a change if things were not working, but anyone who followed the cosmic line recently knows this is far from the case.

Loeb doing a tribute to his son with a crappy knock off. NO thanks. Other writer, may of given it a chance. But yeah. Smell BS on this a mile away.

Absolutely this. After so many years, Marvel got Nova exactly right and the only reason why i can think that they would do this now, is that Nova must play some part in the upcoming Guardians Of The Galaxy movie and they want to relate more to a teen audience. There aren't many relatable teens in comics anymore, so Marvel have obviously decided that instead of actually making an effort and create a new character that fits the mould, they'll just butcher an older one who was awesome! Damn you Marvel!

I think it's funny that they are only showing the art but absolutely none of Loeb's undoubtedly brain-dead dialogue and story. But the art is GORGEOUS. McGuinees, get a new writing partner. I hear Gail Simone's free.
