First Look: GREAT LAKES AVENGERS #1

I always wondered, since Doorman is a herald of an abstract entity, shouldn't he be doing more important tasks rather than chilling with his friends? And why is he taking people to the after life? He is a herald of Oblivion, not Lady Death.

The Keown cover looks great. Not sure what it has to do with the book.

There are so many heroes who has herald status or something else important. And you know what they say about too many cooks.

The only thing I remember about these guys is that Deadpool kicked their asses in Civil War.

@fetts: Those guys aren't supposed to be powerful, they supposed to be stupid and fun, only squirl girl was worth somethings on the battlefield (hell of a lot actually lol)

Well, I was hoping for Mike Allred as the regular artist, not only for a Variant cover, but the real artist seem quite good anyway... so since I already love the G.L.A. [or G.L.I. or G.L.X.], well, I'm in!

@thor_parker82: I may understand your point, but not for this team. They have been the "G.L.A.", Great Lake Avengers, since their begin, from their first miniserie in the 2005. They have also changed thier name in G.L.I. [Great Lake Initiative] and G.L.X. [when they have found that all the members was mutants], but G.L.A. remain their first name... so I think that they must remain with their original name, the G.L.A. :)

For others titles, maybe you are right :)

They are a minor group of wannabe superheroes. When Tony Stark put on the Initiative, they become the National Team of the Great Lake :) They have some miniseries [often changin name: G.L.A., G.L.I., G.L.X.]... they are a sort of "joke team of loser", they try to be heroes, but they are more funny and unluky than heroic :) Squirrel Girl was one of the founder, but now she is one of the most popular marvel charcater, so she can't be no more in this team of loser :)

[Anyway, they stories also had some dramatic moment, since not all team members have survived...]

Looks better than most other marvel books

War can be fought against evil (such as, you know, nazi or wahhabits). And we can see especially good soldiers as heroes of state. So Ares can be hero or villian or wathever he wants to be.
But Oblivion is beign that wants erasure of whole existence. Feel the difference.

Dragon Ball has the God of Destruction as a generally good, (or at the very least, indifferent) guy. That's because Destruction has a place in the universe, same as things we see as "bad" like Death. I suppose, as long as it has something to balance itself out with, Oblivion has a place in the MU as well.

I mean, look at Galactus.

Anyway, you get my point, Marvel is currently naming all its teams Avengers and that just cheapens the name, being an avengers used to mean something, that you were an elite superhero, now it seems lole they´s just giving away memberships.

It seems unlikely that Stark would have sole trademark ownership of the Avengers name, given that at least two other founding members--Jan and Hank--were active in business. Certainly they would have understood the value of the Avengers brand and challenged an attempt by Tony to claim sole ownership of it.

@thor_parker82: Yes, These members are the Founders of the Great Lake Avengers! Mr. Immortal, Flatman, Big Bertha and Doorman have been part of the team since it's first issue, on West Coast Avengers, in the 1989.

What I'm saying is that yes, you are right: today, in the last years, Marvel is overusing the name "Avengers" giving it to anyone. But the Great Lake Avengers have this name from 26/27 years ago! They have not this name for the "Avengers Film Effect" and are not a product of the overusing "Avengers Brand" :)

As far as I know, they was the third team to take that name [after Avengers and West Coast Avengers].

So you are right to complain about "too many avengers team", but this is not the case, since the Great Lake Avengers was here before many others "Avengers" team :)

Since Deadpool has broken it of with Shikla, maybe we'll see some sweet loving between him and Big Bertha. Boing!!!

Definitely picking this up, always good for a good laugh.

I read this & shake my head. I just don't know what's happening anymore. I wonder if this will even make it past 7 issues before Marvel cancels it...
