First Look: Dynamite Entertainment October Comics

October feels like it's still a ways off but with the way comic book solicits work, it's just at the edge of information for what's coming up in the comics we read.

Dynamite Entertainment has sent us some early first looks to share with everyone. Look below to see the covers and solicit information for some of their titles coming out.

VAMPIRELLA (ONGOING) #24

Geez guys if you complain so much about Dynamite because of the fanservice, then don't read it!!! You can keep the subpar DC reboot or Marvel crossover where the heroes fight between themselves more than with a bad guy. Just saying...

He was around way before Batman and Spider-man. All pulp heroes were like the Shadow. Okay, how is he anything like a Pilgrim?

@kuma_far: I see that, but it still makes no sense because the Spider came before them and influence their designs.

I get a very 1930s, 1940s pulp-horror-sci-fi feeling whenever I look at Dynamite covers.

You obviously have never picked up an issue because the man are just as scantily clad.. at least in the Warlord of Mars books.

I'm not big on these kinds of comics (well, Vampirella if she cameos other works isn't too bad. But I don't pick up hers specifically). Usually I don't mind a book with buffed out guys (duh, I'm a girl. I need eye candy too ;P), but excessively turns me off to the whole prospect. That's why I tend to be a bit dismissive about these titles.

Gorgeous Red Sonja cover. Her character is kicks arse.

@Necrotic_Lycanthrope: That's understandable, but the majority of people who complain about the covers never give the stories a chance or don't know the background of the story. Just as an example in the original Burroughs telling of Warlord of Mars no one on Mars wore any clothes. There is even a part in Princess of Mars where Dejah explains it to Carter because he asks the question. Now I understand if you don't like the whole damsel in distress stories told in Warlord of Mars, but the Dejah Thoris title actually shows her in a little bit more of a self reliant role, although there are plenty of men willing to rescue her.

While I do like Edgar Rice novels such as Tarzan...modern interpretations of it fall flat, or that's how I feel. It's a reason why I stay away from new series. Sort of how I cautiously approach Before Watchmen, because the original is a classic.

So far the only "old" story I've seen that I've liked is Disney's Tarzan, and that's because I was little when I saw it, and that it influenced me to read the original story.

Soo any hard-covers I can find around my region ? ... I would love to see those ...features up-close and personal ! ( this is why I love fantasy-based titles more ...they have more ''free'' design ! )

And also, yay for The Spider !

I'm currently getting The Spider so I know # 6 will be one awesome issue. And Fabiano Neves is quickly becoming a character that I believe to be an awesome artist of women, right up there with Ed Benes and Guillem March in my opinion.

The Red Sonja cover looks nice! Hope the story is as good as the art....

@Necrotic_Lycanthrope: That's understandable, I would tend to agree, but I've read the original Warlord of Mars novels, the first three anyway, and so far the comics are really close to the novels. They are skipping some stuff, but for the most part it is happening just as it did in the novel. What I am wondering is how are they going to continue after they finish the run with the novels. Are they going to go to the Burroughs estate to get the rights to the later novels, they aren't in the public domain in the US. Or are they going to create their own stories, like they are in Dejah Thoris and Warriors of Mars.

Chances are they'll try to expand the universe more. Maybe less Watchmen, and more similar to how Star Wars expanded its universe via comics and games.

I always feel that the trouble with Dynamite's books is they have great cover artists, but really lousy interior art.
