SUICIDE SQUAD #8

No Caption Provided

(W) Rob Williams (A/CA) Jim Lee, Scott Williams

"THE BLACK VAULT" part eight! Harley Quinn goes sane! The prisoners and staff of Belle Reve Penitentiary have succumbed to the devastating effects of General Zod's Black Vault, rendering them all insane. But it has the opposite effect on Harley, who must fight her way through a crazed Suicide Squad-with the help of the Enchantress-to stop Zod from waking and conquering the world. No pressure, right? And in a bonus backup story written by Rob Williams with art by Giuseppe Camuncoli and Francesco Mattina, learn how super-villains are conscripted into the Suicide Squad! The unlucky Killer Frost is about to find out when she arrives for her first day at Belle Reve. Her story continues from this month's single issue of SUICIDE SQUAD directly into JUSTICE LEAGUE VS. SUICIDE SQUAD #1!

Really don't feel like SS should be an ongoing title. Like it's cool and all but we alresdy kniw these people aren't going to die so the concept is just a tad bit lost. Imo they should just be used for one shots, miniseries, or important story lines like the upcoming JL vs SS.

This book is pretty shitty. Maybe thats the joke.

The movie and the ongoing in the same year are shitty...who would've thought?

There might not be any delays in the schedule, but Lee's really phoning in that art.

I agree that the problem with this title now is that it is too mainstream and as such there are no real surprises or lasting deaths (*ahem* Captain Boomerang *ahem*). Putting Jim Lee on this book is obviously a big draw but I can't help but feel it's just going to spin the same wheels over the next few months. I think after the JL vs. SS crossover I will drop the title unfortunately but there are just too many good books that I'd rather get instead.

@redmanta: the 1st or the 2nd one? I like the 2nd cover more myself.

Haven't read this. But are they taking off of the terrible film with this series?

Feels like it to me. Which is rather a turn off for me, to be quite honest.

Yeah. The whole joke behind SS was that the characters could get the axe at any point.

If we only saw these guys once or twice a year, and they always lost a couple of members, then the idea that they'd stand any chance against The Justice League would be even more preposterous than it already is.

You have to build these guys up. That includes sending them on Suicide Missions. You don't expect that they'll die, just because they're called the Suicide Squad. It's the missions that they are forced to run that are typically suicide. Plus, if you didn't think they weren't going to come back, you wouldn't have them filling up space on the team anyway. They are disposable, but not inherently weak. They'd be rotting in jail for their full sentences otherwise.

With 90% of the stuff coming out from Rebirth being amazing, this and Harely Quinn were the only ones that I read one issue and was like "Yep, nope...."
