The others a brilliant, but Backstrom can actually adopt personality traits from the people he's interrogating. It's kind of hard to hide something from someone who can think exactly like you.

Batman multitasks too much. Sherlock Holmes gets a little distracted with a thing or two, but he's pretty much pure deduction and detection. (okay, and cocaine addict..at least up until the last book and a few stories)

Its hard to chose but id choose either L, Near or Patrick Jane from the Mentalist.

Sherlock Holmes by far then Batman. And the reason why i say by far, is because of the deduction feats Sherlock was able to accomplish given the technological and forensic limits of his time. Batman has the benefit of living in the age of satellites and computers.

The answer to this question, no matter who else you put in the poll, will always be Sherlock Holmes.

Without a doubt it's Sherlock Holmes. He's damn near the guy who (from a literary standpoint) invented 'detective' as job title. He also doesn't need some kind of fancy super batcomputers to help him solve crimes. He does it the old fashioned way, using his sheer intellect and deductive ability. All while occasionally smoking opium. Imagine how good he'd be were he not to chase the green dragon.

@03s7: Their great hunters absolutely, but more often than not they have to have someone else such as Bobby or Castiel or Crowley what they are fighting and how to defeat it.

@the_real_seaman: i mean recently, Dean had the mark of Cain and fought "God" who was Metatron at the time. No one helped him in that fight, even though Dean almost died. Also Sam and Dean have researched and researched all their opponents, from Genies to Demons to powerful deities. Go toe to toe with demons and angels, they are some of the best detectives as well. They can look at a situation and know which monster or whatever it is. Like really? You don't think they have amazing detective skills? Thinking about it, they are damn good XD if they were in marvel or DC they'd be up with John Constantine
