The Chitauri Invasion Runs a Gauntlet

What's up, Viners!

In this Gauntlet, we're going to use the invasion from Marvel: The Avengers (movie). No BFR. Standard gear. Here are the stipulations, though:

-each team will have a genius assigned to closing the portal (try not to focus TOO much on the genius' level of intellect or area of expertise. Some may have a better shot than others, so try to gauge it based on that. However, try not to exceed a few hrs with each genius). The team will strategize however it sees fit to making sure that that person stays safe.

-the match will start with 3 Space Whales, 20 Chitauri Gliders and 50 Ground Force Chitauri Soldiers.

-the portal will dispatch 1 Space Whale, 10 Gliders and 20 GF Chitauri every 30mins until it is closed or all threats are neutralized.

At what round do they get stopped?

Round 1- Batman, MIB and The Expendables

Genius- Lucius Fox

(Nolanverse) Batman, Agent K, Agent J, Stallone, Couture, Li, Statham, Crews. Snipes, Lundgren, Willis and Schwarzenegger.

Round 2- Team GI Joe and Team Arrow

Genius'- Breaker and Felicity

Roadblock, Heavy Duty, Snake Eyes,Baroness, Scarlet, Accelerator Suit Ripcord, Accelerator Suit Duke, Arrow, Diggle, Mirakuru Roy, Speedy, Atom and Black Canary.

Round 3- Low Tier MCU and 2014 TMNT

Genius- Donatello and Pym

TMNT, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Black Panther, Nick Fury, Antman, Agent Hill, Captain America, Falcon and Winter Soldier.

Round 4- Low Tier Autobots

Genius- NEST Intel Operative

Sideswipe, Mudflap, Skid and The Wreckers (Roadbuster, Leadfoot and Topspin)

Round 5- Low Tier X-Men, Deadpool and GotG

Genius- Rocket Raccoon

Starlord, Drax, Groot, Gamora, Wolverine, Warpath, Gambit, Deadpool, Cyclops, Blink and Nightcrawler (No BFR).

Round 6- Mid Tier Autobots

Genius- Brains

Ratchet, Ironhide, Bumblebee and Jazz

Round 7- Mid Tier X-Men and Fantastic Four

Genius- Beast and Reed (Composite)

Colossus (Composite), Storm, Sunspot, Invisible Woman, Human Torch and The Thing (all composite)

Round 8- Spider-Man and Mid Tier MCU

Genius- JARVIS (Via Random Stark Bot)

House Party Protocol, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, War Machine and Spider-Man (Composite)

Round 9- High Tier MCU and Optimus Prime

Genius- Banner

Thor, Vision and Optimus Prime

Round 10- Team BvS

Genius- Batman

Wonder Woman and Superman.

I haven't seen Age of Apocalypse yet but who on the team in r5 can take down a Leviathan?

they get overwhelmed all rounds.

@juiceboks: Torch didnt display the capacity to nova in that large an area.

Are the chitauri mindlessly attacking the city like they did before or are they actively hunting down said geniuses? Tbh 1 leviathan every 30 minutes is severely underwhelming particularly in the later rounds.

@darkbiscuit: On the contrary Reed described his power as being sufficient to set fire to the entire Earth's atmosphere and wipe out all life if he didn't hold back. I think that's more power than what a simple nuke would be capable of.

@juiceboks: in the same scene when they were testing him out in the box? I don't remember; ill take your word for it but i don't doubt that there was context/semantics to what he said that changes the dynamic of the statement. Could also be an ass and say "but by feats..."

@darkbiscuit: The context was that Reed was describing what would happen if Johnny went Nova uninhibited.

Space Whales make it tougher but they don't make it beyond Round 8.

Stop at 2-3 honestly, the Chitauri forces are too few at the moment

@juiceboks: ATOM/Ant-Man could go giant, bye bye Leviathan.

stops at 1 mib have weapons that can kill the leviathans and the soldiers and chariots have been shown being destroyed by bullets. mib shoot down the whales batman and expendables mop up.

@supremegeneration: What's Roy done as a giant to suggest he could? The leviathans have shown to be stronger and more durable than Scott having flown through skyscrapers without halting and being impervious to all of Iron Man's weapons. Scott was taken down by a combined punch from WM and Tony in an inferior armor to that of the one he had in Avengers. They're also significantly larger than Scott.

Context for Scott

His feet/legs were webbed up and he survived the double punch (only reverted back b/c Cap and Bucky has gotten on the Quinjet), not to mention he had previously eaten up a ton of missiles.

Funnily enough, enemy Giant Robot is also called Leviathan. Another thing we forgot is, Scott could use his shrink disks on the Leviathans. Bye-bye Leviathans.

Having his legs tied only assisted in his literal downfall, and no he reverted because he couldn't keep up the form as the punch took him out of the fight. Which is why he didn't do anything else for the entire scene. The missiles didn't do anything but annoy him, and he only tanked a few low caliber ones.

That doesn't look like standard gear at all, in fact it looks like something Roy prepped for which is implied by his own admission that it was a test strategy.

Scott only has so many of those, and he doesn't always use them especially not like that.

Also remember that Scott is a bit more mobile than the Space Whales while in Giant-Form (he was slower but he could still dodge and hit them where it hurts).

@supremegeneration: The fall didn't take the fight out of him, the punch did. Regardless the leviathans still have better durability and strength showings in addition to being much larger.

Nobody on that team is stalling a leviathan, and I'm not convinced Roy carries around all the equipment needed to recreate that power at all times.

Pym isn't on that team, and again Scott doesn't really use his discs to shrink enemies like that.

Reed is too smart, and I think no other team before has the strength to contend with the space whales.

Round five has pretty good change of being the stopping point. In MCU, Chitauri work/belong Thanos so Gamora should have pretty good idea about how to make the Chitauri & leviathans bleed the most and Night crawler to teleport in and out with something like fusion bomb to plant inside Leviathan where it hurts the most.

With "unkillables" like DP, Groot, Wolverine and Night crawler with the whole team armed with weapons specially meant to kill the Chitauri, should make it relatively one sided fight and give Rocket plenty of time to find a way to shut down the portal. Not to mention that technologically GOTG-team is on the same level as the Chitauri if not actually slightly higher.

10 outright beats the invasion and causes them to retreat or kills them all some in the earlier rounds may close the portal but to many what ifs
