Superman's abillities are based off of the amount of yellow light he receives, the sun is getting redder and redder however, and it's becoming hotter at a alarming rate, eventually when it becomes red orange, super man would have no powers, the earth would be lifeless, and we all die, and it's really starting to pick up heat, saying that the clock is ticking very quickly for us now, so we better find a way to evacuate the earth ASAP before the sun and increasing C02 levels begins to make things to hot for anyone.
As the sun is getting visibly redder Superman loses his power as red radiation causes him to lose energy, however no one told DC that wearing red protects you from red light, as red colors reflect red light, thus protecting you. Yes it sounds retarded but it works.

He reflects blue light. Wearing yellow would cripple him as he would reflect all yellow light. Wearing white would reflect ALL ligjt, and wearing mirror fabric would make him laser proof, but also prevent any light from reaching him.
