Skeletor was able to contend with He-Man, who was able to physically battle with Pre-Crisis Superman, who in turn was able to effortlessly drag a plethora of planets across the galaxy. Ares was ripped in half by Sentry.....spite much?

Just to inform everyone Ares was able to contend physically with Hercules who in turn held up the "heavens" including planets, solar systems, and galaxies. If it was a pure physical fight I'd say Ares stands a good chance, but Skeletor will probably "magic" the hell out of him before that happens.

In that case a pure h2h fight between the two could go either way. Ares being the god of war has been classified as the most fearsome warrior to ever walk the earth with untold knowledge of combat and impressive feats to back that up.
