The most powerful army of the ancient world or the fearsome Uruk-hai?

First battle is at Helm's Deep with Romans defending.

Second battle is in the open fields of Rohan.

Third battle is at Isengard itself with the Uruk-hai defending.

Let's say Saruman's been busy and has made untold thousands of Uruk-hai while the Romans are at the height of their military strength.

The Uruk hai have the advantage of numbers, and the romans have no idea of the discipline the Uruk Hai have. Unlike the barbaric orcish hordes, the Uruk hai are a well oiled war machine and masters of siege engineering. And they have one thing the romans don't, explosives. As well as full plate armor. Factor in the Uruk hai's pikes having superior length to the roman's spears and they have a deadly advantage.

Also, Crossbow Bolts have far superior penetrating power compared to Short bow Arrows. And using a crossbow takes far less training then using a Bow and arrow. And the crossbow equivalent of bolt action firing in a uruk hai crossbow makes the normal advantage of a Bow and Arrow's rate of fire a moot point.

The Romans' tactics typically go as follows: throw clouds of javelin, march in with tortoise formation, break once close to the enemy, and fight. Don't forgot that the Romans also have crushing numbers and tactics.

Just thought I'd throw that in."

Do not forget, the romans are accustomed to fighting uncivilized barbarians, not foes in a higher level of technology than they.

True, but the Romans are also infamous for adapting to their foes. "

Correct, but the Uruk hai are able to easily replace their losses, so they can keep on sending legions upon legions of troops. Oh and http://www.comicvine.com/message/middle-earth-vs-oerth-vs-azeroth/923512/&page=3#post923922 thought we might want to get back to this.
