Omnipotence is mearly a title saying that he or she is the most powerful being in their area and therefore can do anything. Omnipotence doesn't mean that the being has infinite or even ultimate power.

Omnipotence = Infinite Power, Infinite Control, Infinite presence, Infinite Knowledge

Omnipotence > Everything else

Omnipotent Being = God > Everything else

There's nothing above omnipotence kiddo.

Omnipotence isn't a title. Being a "god" is a title and doesn't mean anything close to omnipotence (example: Marvel Ares, Hercules, etc.)  Unless we're talking about near-omnipotence, which basically is a title since it's impossible. Omnipotence = infinite power. You can't be near infinite.

But omnipotence (the One Above All, the Presence) = unlimited power.

Well I suppose that with ultimate power one must be omnipresent and omniscient and omnipotent. so yeah Omnipotence might just be 1/3 of the total package. Both The presence and the one above all have all 3

"Infinite means "never running out". Ultimate means "the highest possible"  So if Ultimate power means that you can do whatever you want, and omnipotence means you can do whatever you want. Maybe they're the same thing?  As "supreme cosmic" said, omnipotence is only 1/3 of the omni package. There is still omniscient and omnipresent after that.  So as the internet, and dictionaries, and books, and logic says, You can never lose with Ultimate power since ultimate is the highest possible (which means no going higher)  So in a fight between omnipotence and ultimate power, we already know that ultimate power can't lose since "ultimate power" is the highest possible. So the only question left is if the omnipotent can rival ultimate power. Either way, It's Ultimate wins or Ultiamte ties. "

om·nip·o·tent  (m-np-tnt)
adj.
Having unlimited or universal power, authority, or force; all-powerful. See Usage Note at infinite.
n.
1. One having unlimited power or authority: the bureaucratic omnipotents.
2. Omnipotent God. Used with the.

ul·ti·mate  (lt-mt)
adj.
1. Being last in a series, process, or progression: "As the ultimate arbiter of the Constitution, the Supreme Court occupies a central place in our scheme of government"(Richard A. Epstein).
2. Fundamental; elemental: an ultimate truth.
3.
a. Of the greatest possible size or significance; maximum: Has the ultimate diamond been found?
b. Representing or exhibiting the greatest possible development or sophistication: the ultimate bicycle.
c. Utmost; extreme: the ultimate insult.
4. Being most distant or remote; farthest. See Synonyms at last.
5. Eventual: hoped for ultimate victory.
n.
1. The basic or fundamental fact, element, or principle.
2. The final point; the conclusion.
3. The greatest extreme; the maximum: actions that represented the ultimate in political expediency.

So One means having No limit the other means being the bigest or greatest. Since being hte biggest means being able to at some point be quantified comparing that to something that is limitles or infinite and therefore can't be quatified is like comparinng a good ball player to a pro ball player

Omniptant definitely wins the day.

Omnipotence has many meanings attributed to it over time. Originally it was the Latin 'omni potens' meaning 'all powerful'. Sometimes Omnipotence has been made to mean 'infinite' or 'unlimited', but most definitions of omnipotent fall short of that, like 'ultimate', 'maximum' 'highest', 'absolute', 'all'. Omnipotence does not strictly mean infinite power, it means the highest power attainable.

A secondary aspect of omnipotence is ability. Omnipotent beings have the power to do anything that is possible to do. They do not have the power to do anything at all. That is a different attribute called Omnicompetence.

A being can be omnipotent without having infinite power by having the ultimate power, the unassailable power, but a being with infinite power is omnipotent, because infinite power is also unassailable and the highest.

Edit:

To add to this, Omniscience is the quality of being all-knowledgeable. Omnipresence is the quality of being everywhere at one time.

There is no single quality of being infinite in all aspects. It's certainly not what omnipotent means as some people suggest that it does.

Omnipotence has a meaning, whether or not it means a different thing to someone other than its actual meaning is irrelevant.

Plot twist, a being with ultimate power would have to be an omnipotent as there is no power above that.

A lot of people have misconceptions about omnipotence. It just means one is all-powerful. It has nothing to do with infinite power. Omnipotence is hard to comprehend because you have to assume it defies logic.

I disagree. I always thought of nigh-omnipotent beings as characters who can do anything, as long as they don't piss off something bigger than them.

Let's take a character with infinite speed and strength.

is this character omnipotent? no.

Now let's take a character Othinus for example.

She has magic that always works 100% of the time in every possible reality.

Now is she omnipotent?

Omnipotence beats a being with ultimate power. If the being had the ultimate power or supreme power it would be considered equal.

@thekillerklok: I thought her power only worked 50% of the time...?

Anyways, if she can freely structure the entire multiverse as she pleases, barring logical paradoxes, then she'd be nigh-omnipotent because there are still other characters higher than her in the food chain.

With her lance that bumped up to 100%

Also my post was really meant to explain the ambiguous category of nigh omnipotent and where they rank. I am drawing a blank on the word but it was not really a question I was asking the answer to lol.

Ultimate merely means final.

Nothing says that the "final" power is greater then omnipotence. Therefore Omnipotence wins.

@galactic_1000: Omnipotence isn't finite at all...it's absolute. Ultimate power can be applied to many contexts, Omnipotence means one thing and, if it happens to be the ultimate power by context, it can be that to.

However, because an ultimate power can be anything relative to any perspective, since to even equal omnipotence it would have to actually be omnipotence, this would mean omnipotence is greater: Omnipotence means omnipotence 100% of the time, Ultimate power is only omnipotence from a particular perspective and cannot exceed omnipotence, yet it can be exceeded in areas other than its given contextual specification at that point by omnipotence (which covers everything conceivable and inconcievable).

@galactic_1000: Yes. I suppose the differentiating factor would be in how omnipotence itself is unyielding in its definition in any given situation whereas something ultimate is context sensitive.

In reference to each other, the fact that they are differentiated at all means they are not the same thing here, and only one word means omnipotence all the time. In this case, The advantage of omnipotence is in the context of comparison: the ultimate power would be encompassed by omnipotence, as well as every power that is not ultimate, and every power that isn't even a power, and so forth.

In other words, we have 5 powers represented by numbers 1-5. The highest, ultimate power is 5. However, omnipotence would be 15 (all numbers combined, including the lesser ones).

Omnipotence is a constant meaning which means all-powerful

Ultimate power is relative to the person saying it.

For example in Dragon Ball Super Zen-chan is said to be have ultimate power but clealy isn't omnipotent

Anything can be labelled "ultimate" but in the end can be surpassed.

actually all of you need to realize that omnipotence does not mean what you think it means i will give you an example why it doesn't mean what people believe's it means

example

Dawings famously claimed "it has not escaped the notice of logicians that omniscience and omnipotence are mutally incompatible, if god(any god) is omniscient, he must already know how he/she is going to intervene to change the course of history using omnipotence. But that means that he can't change his mind about his intervention, which means that he is not omnipotent"

Dawnkings argued that the god of the bible couldn't be omnipotent since a being who is supposedly omnipotent would have to be also omnipresent, and if they were both omnipotent and omniscient, said god couldn't change the course of history because he would already know how he would change the course of history and as such wouldn't change his mind and as such wouldn't actually be omnipotent. what both Dawkings failed to realize is that actual Logicians have debunked this

according to Logicians, Omnipotence Doesn't mean the power to perform any imaginary action that human beings might dream up, Onipotence is merely the power to perform any action that does not involve a contradiction in terms.

IE, God(omnipotent being)(or gods what ever you want to believe in) can not make a square circle, not because his power is limited, but because the notion of a square circle implies a contradiction.

IE Omnipotence is purely the ability to perform any action that doesn't involve a contradiction. nothing more nothing less.

@randell1985: Dawkins has shown time and again that his philosophy is rusty. I'd hardly consider him a worthwhile person to listen to on the matter.
