Katara runs the airbending gauntlet.

The last waterbender of the Southern Water Tribe will take on a gauntlet of airbenders.

Location: Fire Nation capital.

Battle conditions:

All are in character/Morals on.

Standard gear, air benders cannot use their staffs to fly.

No AS.

30 feet starting distance.

Katara starts next to the large lake, but cannot go onto the water.

Time is perpetual twilight.

Current versions, comic feats allowed.

Katara is fully healed and properly rested after each round.

Round 1: 1 member of the new air nation

Round 2: Meelo and Ikki

Round 3: Opal and Jinora

Round 4: Zaheer (no flight)

Round 5: Tenzin

Round 6: Aang (Airbending only)

Bonus: Katara will run the gauntlet again, but this time everyone is bloodlusted and Katara can go on the water.

Stops at Tenzin.

Zaheer was pretty high up in skill even without flight, not to mention his insane durability. Katara could stop earlier, but she is not besting Zaheer.

Both rounds? Any reasons?

Zaheer is skilled, but I wouldn't say Katara is incapable of beating him period. Kya tagged him a few times and Katara is definitely better than Kya. Katara also has abilities with the potential to bypass physicals like durability (such as flash freeze). What gives Zaheer the win for you?

Kya only tagged him when he was trying to run away. Once he decided to fight, she couldn't land a single hit and he stomped her and a couple of other benders at the same time. While I do agree that Kya is probably not as good as Katara, she was no match for Zaheer either.

With her morals, Katara rarely uses abilities like flash freeze or blood bending(which I believe can get her a win). She mostly relies on her raw water bending skills and that, IMO, won't be enough against someone who has a more aggressive form of bending, is way more ruthless, durable and experienced.

This. I feel tenzin can counter her AoE of water with strong air blasts.

lol Zaheer is getting so fanboyed... Katara wrecks him with absolute ease. He is no match for master benders of this calliber. Even with flight, he is still bad compared to people like her...

Loses to Tenzin in a very close fight.

What gives Tenzin the edge?

@vengefulshot: Zaheer is just a proficient bender with decent agility. He has no versatality, raw power etc. Airbending Masters are OP but he is no master and the fact that he doesn't use traditional bending arts like Aang or Tenzin makes it difficult to believe he can actually content with a master like Katara. I doubt even flight can save him. I think he is very overrated. Just compare him to the rest of the RL and you'll see the difference.

@vengefulshot: Superior physicals, greater raw power and equal finesse in his respective element. Their tactical abilities are insufficient to play a determining factor.

Stops at Tenzin, he's got the skill, experience and mobility to outfight Katara.

5 or 6. I would probably lean towards her beating Tenzin, but that would be a fascinating fight.
