Dante vs Alex Mercer

They are fighting in New York. Win by death or total incapacitation. They know nothing of each other prior to the fight. Dante just has his sword, no guns, Devil Trigger, or any other abilities. Mercer has all his abilities from the first game.

I don't see how Dante can put Alex down.

Alex should eventually absorb him.

Dante way outclasses Alex in everything. If Alex's powers were more like parasite Eve's then he might stand a chance but as it is he is in for a whupping. If Dante can't kill him he can at least immobilize him in Ice.

I was thinking of the original Dante, but with the limitations stated in the set up

I specified above that this is original Dante and i said in the set up that he only has his sword.

Also, what do you say to these statements?

@silverrings: Honestly I still have to go with Dante he's been able to do so much with just his sword alone even not in Devil Trigger.... Alex will never be able to weaken him enough to absorb him... Alex almost got killed by humans multiple times while Dante stands there just lets out a sigh... as hes being shot millions of times.

Fair points. How exactly can Dante put Alex down for good, though?

Alex has a finite healing factor, unlike Wolverine he doesn't pull new flesh from thin air

Actually, Alex can regenerate parts of his body, but to a much lesser extent than Wolverine. He consumes beings to restore more health rather than waiting, but he doesn't need to consume. It mainly aids him in combat.

@pope052: After he was caught in the explosion he didn't recover until he absorbed the bird that came to peck on his body.

He can recover wounds but it is dependent on stored mass as shown when he could recover more limbs only a finite number of times in his fight against Heller after he had absorbed the others.

@dextersinister: Dante isn't wrecking him like a nuke.Dante can only delay his death really, because he has no way to put Alex down.

@dextersinister: The virus actually does naturally reconstruct itself, its just faster if Alex consumes. This battle is dependent on which Dante were using. DMC3 Dante is the least experienced but has the best abilities out of all his incarnations and those abilities should tip the fight more in his favor. DMC4 Dante doesn't have the abilities DMC3 Dante has but has more experience, this fight could go either way with Dante only having access to rebellion and devil trigger. DMC2 Dante has the most experience out of any of his incarnations and has the most destructive devil trigger, Mercers gonna go threw hell against this Dante. DMC1 Dante falls between DMC2's & DMC4's incarnations where he doesn't have a lot of special abilities outside his use of rebellion but has an extremely powerful devil trigger (considering end game devil trigger) that should give him an edge against Mercer. Finally, DMC Reboot Dante doesn't bring many abilities to the table nor a good devil trigger to help counteract his lack of special abilities, this Dante has the least chances of besting Mercer.

Under these limitations, neither has a way of putting the other down.

Dante isn't gonna kill a guy who can survive a nuke with just a sword.

Alex isn't going to be able to cut a guy in half when that guy is able to literally laugh off being impaled by multiple spikes.

No. Alex's healing factor is above Logan's imo. That absorbing thing to heal yourself is just a game mechanic. He is composed of Viral Biomass. He can regenerate very easily from explosions, bullets, missiles etc. Yeah, from extremely high-powered weapons like multiple cruise-missles to the face followed by multiple tank shells, mortar fire and JDMs...he will need to consume someone to get back from that.

But from normal rockets, missiles, bullets, explosions...he can regenerate from those very easily. The 'consuming organics-to-heal-from-bullets' mechanic is just to balance the gameplay.

Wolverine can regenerate from his skeleton.

Alex can regenerate from a puddle.

@jmarshmallow: Although to be fair, Wolverine doesn't need to consume organics to regenerate from a skeleton while Alex does need em' to regenerate from a puddle.

I didn't mean that Alex's HF was inferior than Wolverine's, I meant that it is slower. Wolverine has better showings of healing naturally than Alex does without consuming somebody/thing.

What are Mercer's speed/destruction/strenght/durability feats.

Laughing off missles and tank artillery like its nothing.

Able to dodge bullets point blank.

Able to run up a building. While carrying a vehicle. WITH ONE HAND.

And I haven't even played the second game.

I'd put my money on Mercer, I don't see Dante putting him down. I wonder if Mercer could infect Dante.

You do know that DMC 1,2 happens after DMC 3 do you ? and Dante there is stronger too.

Dante can't put Mercer down physically , but Mercer can weaken and consume Dante.

Mercer should be stronger. He tossed a tank a whole city block with just one hand, like nothing. He is definitely a 100 toner. He can also form his arms into more muscle mass to increase his strength even further, making people literally explode on impact.

Dante should be faster, Mercer can dodge missiles and run faster than speeding trains though so he could keep up long enough to land a hit imo.
