What if Obama's words to Cap about "greater things in store for him" meant that Cap was gonna run for President in the near future, and win by a landslide. Skynet decides to send a peak "Arnold" version Terminator (T-850) back to the present to TERMINATE Cap before he can run for President, and bring stability to America once again.
Setting: NYC streets, at night, with civilians present.
Rules: Cap has his suit on under a trench coat, ala Kyle Reese, with his Shield under the trench at the start of the confrontation. T-850 is attacking head on, with a 10 gauge pump action shot gun (00 Titanium buckshot) and a Titanium Bowie Knife.
Does Cap survive to be President? Or is Cap TERMINATED?

Cap can win. He's faster and more agile than than the Terminator, and far more skilled, he can defeat the Terminator with the help of Shield, he could most likley throw his Shield at Terminator.
Terminator's stronger, has enhanced senses/sensors, targeting and target tracking abilities with probability spectrum, ect.
Cap also is initially engaged with the Shield strapped to his back, under the trench coat, and has maybe 2 seconds of awareness that he's being "targeted" for Termination.

cap beats the terminator to death with the shield. caps shield has blocked blows from the hulk no problem. that or cap keeps fighting and dodging until it's determined he can't take the T-850 down and so he calls tony to come deal with it. so either cap wins or draw. i can't see arnie winning this.

I don't think people are giving the T-850 enough credit for versatility and resourcefulness. They are just basing it off of the first terminator film, when he acted like little more than an automaton with weapons. Terminator 2 and 3 proves that T-850 can be very resilient, and tactful. Terminator 3 was a true testiment to their extreme level of durability and speed. The T-850 and the T-X tore through a bathroom like paper with no signs of slowing down. I don't believe this is a stomp.
I feel like the Terminator is being underestimated. The only thing Cap has that can damage the Terminator is his shield, and I'm sure Arnold can figure this out. He's certainly durable enough to take quite a few hits from the shield at least, and once he realizes how dangerous it is, he'll aim to disarm Steve first, either by dodging the shield or knocking it away. He'll certainly have difficulty, but I have trouble seeing the T-850 losing this.
@warlockmage: Well, then. I was unaware of this. Unless T-850 can get the jump on him early on, I suppose Cap could take this. I'm still somewhat torn.
steal Ultron would smoke the terminator, and Cap was doing a fair job against him.
Terminator is way way way slower and less skilled than Steal Ultron. Cap's shield also embedded itself in steal ultron, so cap's shield should be able to damage the terminator.
Seems to me that terminators are better than ultron bots (by a fair margin), but one still couldn't take out Cap.
