Best Battles in New Comics: 6/19/15

It's that time of the week. Time to look at the latest edition of Best Battles in New Comics. Comics often feature big battles with superheroes fighting supervillains. Sometimes we even have superheroes fighting other superheroes. Get ready to cheer and possibly cringe at the brutal punches being thrown.

There will be some spoilers below!

It almost seemed like there wasn't a huge selection of fights this week. But we did have some good ones.

JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1

For the first issue of a new Justice League series, this issue does set up a few different plot lines. No one wants an issue full of set up so there is a pretty big fight featured in this issue. If you're going to do a sort of big warm up fight before the true threat arrives, who can you bring in to take on the entire League? How about someone that can drain and absorb their powers and become even more powerful like Parasite?

The League had all been separately invited to a seemingly abandoned power plant. Despite everyone being on their toes and Batman's too-late warning for everyone to leave, Parasite revealed himself and started draining Hal's ring's energy. The others tried taking him on but that just resulted in him taking some of the Speed Force from Barry and swallowing Wonder Woman whole.

Hal did recover from the feedback when the others tried pulling him away and "showed" Parasite what could be done with all the energy he stole.

That didn't go too well. Superman did arrive but Parasite turned his attention back on Flash.

The fight was getting to be quite a mess. The League were scatted and in different states of being battered down. What if more members of the League showed up? Cyborg arrives and started blasting away.

The League kept trying different things. Of course teamwork is the key but it became hard when members started getting drained or pulled away. Needless to say, this was a pretty long fight. We've only shown you the tip of the iceberg and that's all we're going to show you.

ARCHIE VS PREDATOR #3

Things have not been going well for Archie and his friends in Riverdale. They've suffered huge losses and realized having any sort of weapon makes them an automatic target for the Predator. Luckily, Dilton has a plan. He shows some of the remaining gang what he had been cooking up in the AV Club room.

Dilton climbs in but unfortunately there were still some bugs in the system. When the arm canon fires off a shot, that's the cue for the Predator to enter. The rest of the weapons aren't online and it's up to Archie to try to fix a loose wire in the back.

As the fight heats up, could this be the end for Archie?

When it looks like the suit managed to capture the Predator with a net (how do you think that'll go?), it then turns on Betty. The suit is in kill mode and Dilton fights to regain control.

Is this the end for Betty too? There's been a lot of death in this series and there's still one more issue left. But of course we're not going to tell you what happens next. Let's just say it's not too pretty.

BLACK CANARY #1

Black Canary is on tour now with a new band. Hey, she needs to make money and has a great voice. The problem, it seems she can't perform a gig without a fight breaking out. The fights aren't all her fault. As she tries to put on another show, something happened and she was able to see through the strange disguise of some major trouble in the audience.

She brings a new meaning to crowd participation.

As a true hero, she tries clearing everyone out. She can recognize the danger present. She also wants a little room to do what she does so well.

Fighting with a mic and sending flying kicks would bring down the average troublemaker. But there's something more to these guys. That means it's time to hit the high note.

Guess she really brought the house down, am I right?

Oh man. Make sure you pick up the issue to find out what exactly was going on and what happens next.

That parasite vs Justice League fight was just embarrassing.

What about moon knight and the drones?

@vivide: I kinda thought that big old glider and his arriving-at-the-perfect-moment were a bit too much. Also did I miss something? I thought he lost all his money?

I said it in another thread, the Parasite absorbed the Speedforce and energy from Hal's ring and then just stood there doing his best Godzilla impression. At that point he should have speed blitzed the league and game over.

It was actually the weakest part of the story.

Lol...Archie vs Predator.

Lame battle.

He had the glider before he lost his money. Plus, when your that rich you'll always have $$, Swiss bank accounts ;-P

I'm sure he'll give his money back anyway, getting financial advice from an ancient Egyptian god beyond the bounds of time space never hurts.

Can't wait to pick this issue up though, I hope it's good.

@earthsmightiest: The fight was so inconsistent, like Batman actually hurting Parasite while he had absorbed the power of Green Lantern... c'mon...

Justice League fight was amazing

@rageex2: Sure Parasite absorbed energy from the ring but its not like he had the skill or will power to wield it in any meaningful or useful way.

@mangakid1995: It's not about whether he can utilize the powers of a GL, Parasite's durability, strength, etc. is upgraded when he absorbs energy.. absorbing the power of the most powerful weapon in the universe should not mean he can get hurt by a non-superpowered guy's kick....

parasite vs the League battle was a bit silly but the circumstances were intriguing. Black Canary nearly got my vote, peculiar but vibrant and oddly fitting for the character.

They all sucked.

When is the league going to fight newer, powerful enemies? Here are my take:

1. JL vs a reality warper that exceeds HOM Scarlet Witch. Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg are all unafected due to different connections.

--->Superman: reality warpping doesn't affect the Man of Steel as he could punch his way out of it.

--->Green Lantern: his Oan's ring emits protection coating against reality warpping & his [Hal, John, and Kyle] has control over their reality through willpower alone.

---> Martian Manhunter: his shapeshifting abilities are superior & far exceeds any reality alteration.

--->Flash: he could escape the altered dimensions by entering through the speed force & leaving to another, where reality warpping & magic doesn't exist.

--->Aquaman: his possession of Possesiden's triden carries powerful magic that protects its user against any alteration from reality shaping & magic--the trident cancels magic too & coiuld absorp any energies pattern.

--->Cyborg: he could use Darkseid's mother box to teleport into a different dimension & with his technopathic abilities, he could create a father box to counter any reality warpping.

2. JL vs a magic user that exceeds Spectre. Wonder Woman gives part of her ageis bracelet to Batman and he forges several heat-seeking-magic-canceled batarangs that cannot be deflected or bfr until it hits it magical target, and a magic repellent word [for Diana to use against all magical threats] as a last resort.

3.JL vs Monarch possessing Captain Atom, whose energies absorption & manipulation, as well as his matter manipulation & absorption far exceeds the Silver Surfer.

4. JL vs Dark Raven--stronger than Trigon & her combined siblings together. She defeats the team after transporting them into her mind as a last resort. They later escape after encountering Raven trapped within the ridges of her mind, where nothing could penetrate until Aquaman, Batman, and Cyborg created a mystical boom tube that helped Raven gained back limited control of her body where she commits suicide to free them from damnation--she is later revived from her powerful soul self's healing abilities.

5. JL vs Fate--immunity to all forms of magics, regardless of how powerful they may be. Defeated by Aquaman's trident, Wonder Woman' lasso & sword, and Batman's batarangs.

6. JL vs Black Alice, after she has absorped the Spectre's power & Constantine's knowledge & skills. Defeated by Aquaman's trident, Wonder Woman's lasso & sword, and Batman's batarangs.

7. JL vs Maxima, where she takes them all down, where she challenged against Diana's to prove who's the better female warrior of the DC with no powers but their skills alone; she used her matter manipulation & absorption powers to remove their powers the match was over. She then KO Aquaman & Martian Manhunter with physical blows after a long telepathic battles in the astral realm where her astral combative skills were detrimental in their mental downfalls. She now uses her telepathic abiltiies to hijack Cyborg's bodyparts & shut off his entire bioelectrical functions. She later uses her ferrokinesis, telekinesis, and mater manipulation to deconstruct the Green Lantern's metalic ring & fight off his numerous creative constructs, and then kick him from her planet through the sun down onto an Earth's Metropolis diner. Then, she defeats Batman through sheer skills alons; the battle is like Diana. Lastly, the Flash traps Maxima within the speed force, where he engages her in combat. She kept with his lightning speed punches & kicks & had enough of fighting a worthless child, so she teleports both of them out the speed force & into galaxy, where he couldn't breathe & was KO via incapatation, but she teleported him into Gotham's hospital to be treated.

8. JL vs Big Barda, where Wonder Woman is the last woman standing, after Big Barda--loses her huband--boom tubes everyone into Darkseid's lair & has to fight his armies, himself, Granny Goodness--who's much stronger & skilled than Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Big Barda, and Zatanna. She KO's Cyborg with her mega rod. Throughout the match, Diana learned that her braclet could absorp all forms of energiess pattern, including kinetic, magical, etc., so she takes it off for a fairer fight. Wonder Woman defeats Big Barda afte a long, difficult, and bloody fight.

@earthsmightiest: He absorbed the energy, but didnt know how to use it. It looks like this version of parasite doesnt absorb abilities, just their energy to make himself stronger.

Also that only applies to Post Flashpoint Flash to be honest. Its Pre-New 52 Wally you are probably gunning for.

Speed force is speed force regardless what Earth Flash comes from.

@sirfizzwhizz: Really? CW Flash uses the Speedforce? Even if he did, is draining someone like him anywhere near as impressive as draining the other flashes..

First part, CW Flash never shown in Earth Crossover comcis. Flashes in canon crossover events from different universes still tap into the same speed force. This only shown to apply to comics by feats.

As for draining a Flash of a different caliber, does it matter? Its drainable, and that means anyone can argue that point. The only argument then becomes does the draining abilities of someone realistically match or surpass say Parasite, and people like Quasar, Silver Surfer, and others are far beyond Parasite in drain feats. they should for sure drain Wally West for example.

@laflux: @sirfizzwhizz: only this version is, and it is inconsistent considering how it can take divine/solar/dimension when it can't even take sonic energy (cyborg diversity beams)

@sirfizzwhizz: The CW universe is part of the DC Multiverse IIRC....

But by feats not connected or crossover with comic worlds. We already know for a fact different comic Universes are interchangeable with speed Force thanks to cross over events.
