If you're referring to what hapenned at the end of Forever Evil, he didn't, he only absorbed the life force of planets, not Universes.

Killing billions of fodder isn't really anything impressive to be honest..

Your wrong, he consumed the powers of the entire Earth 3 Universe which included the essences of all life on earth 3 except for the few survivors of the crime syndicate.

At the end of Forever Evil, Grail stated that The Anti-Monitor consumed a Universe. It was later revealed that the Anti-Monitor consumed the power of that Universe and caused the event of Convergence.
