Public Domain Redesign #54

Golden Age Origin:

Steve Drake, an FBI Agent, was a grim Cold War avenger known as the Black Cobra. He was assisted by his sidekick, the Cobra Kid . He has no superpowers, but his costume was made from a special bulletproof plastic Drake had invented, as well as suction cups in his boots which allowed him to run down buildings. In the Four Star version of the stories which were reprinted by Ajax-Farrell, Black Cobra retains his original identity as Jim Hornsby, the original Black Cobra. Cobra had a garage underneath his house where he kept his black "Super-racer" car.

This character needs a serious redesign. Lets get the creative juices going and of course a pencil and paper or anything that you can scribble with. :P

Here is my entry, I accidentally chopped off the feet so I drew some specs on the side to show what they look like and what I was thinking.

Here's my crack at him.

Well I tried different versions on this. Even some female fencing characters. Ultimately I settled for a quick version and here it is. Many really good posts, more than what I expected so thanks to all you creative artists that have joined so far! :D

I completely accept that this is not acceptable for the challenge so, i'm cool if it's disqualified.

however, I was just inspired to draw this and I wanted to share.

also, some really great redesigns here! good job guys!

I just picture a female Black Cobra as a super spy character.

I'm good with this since you made the Black Cobra a female crime fighter with a cool car accessory, what guy or gal crime fighter would not love to have this as part of their gear?

Originally he only posted the car version and thought maybe it wasn't qualified as a redesign. Then he posted the second drawing of just her. To me both are excellent and would make it into the voting stage. The car was the redesign accessory. :)

@ramsillustrations thank you! i'm just trying to draw what I can. it's hard to ignore an idea, esp when it's an opportunity to try different things and work on things; in this case, i just wanted to get practice into drawing vehicles.

@frischdvh thank you! the car cover was the first upload and i figure it didn't fall under a redesign; also, i treated it like a comic cover. the 2nd upload is closer to what is part of the challenge, once again, i treated it like a comic cover.

@ramsillustrations I am completely flattered and humbled by your compliments, thank you! (big smile) aside from working on my art, i'm trying to write too. I hope you're right that it will all pay off. I'm just happy that there are people that take an interest in what I do. my words of wisdom to everyone: keep creating!

I have always liked your style and take on the themes and characters chosen for the contests. Recently I have noticed everything being tighter and more consistent and professional. You are polishing many of the rougher areas and your composition and camera angles for you figures are really visually fun and exciting. I am not one to compliment often unless I really mean it, but if it's deserved, I like to let you know your practice is shining through and you are heading in the right direction.
