    Began writing for MLJ comics in 1941. Throughout the 40s he wrote for all the major comic publishers. He then left comics for Hollywood where he established himself as a screenwriter. In his later years he concentrated on novel writing.

    He claimed in later years to have coined Captain Marvel/Bill Batson's famous "Holy Moley!" phrase, though there is no evidence to support this claim.
