Samuel Antonetti is the technology giant behind The Excelsior, a cutting edge smartphone device which utilizes satellite communications. He's ruthless and used to getting his way. The only reason people are around him is so he can take what he wants from them.
A mysterious entity known as The Presence coerced Antonetti into retrieving some kind of alien technology from the Earth's orbit. It deforms Antonetti and bestows him with absorbing powers. Now the metaphor of stealing and taking from people is a reality as The Siphon sponges off other super beings. His powers however are useless against The Sire.
