Acclaimed writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray (COUNTDOWN, FRIDAY THE 13TH, JONAH HEX) join forces with artistic powerhouse Darick Robertson (The Boys) for a 6-issue WildStorm epic like no other. In anticipation of the upcoming multiplatform Activision video game comes the hyperkinetic world of PROTOTYPE! Follow New York homicide detectives as they track a serial killer unlike any they've ever faced, and enter a new era where human extinction and monstrous evolution collide!

The issue begins in Vietnam in 1968, where 1st Lieutenant Peter Randall leads a team of Marines to an enemy camp. It is here that his strong commitment to his duty is revealed as he believes he is here to 'liberate the Vietnamese people from the ever-expanding danger of a Communist plague that threatens their way of life'. He is then met by General Stillwell who informs him that he is being reassigned. When Randall hesitantly asks the General what he should with his men, Stillwell executes them and states that it was an order.

The scene then shifts to Manhattan, New York where N.Y.P.D Detectives McKlusky and Ella Garcia are summoned to a crime scene in Manhattan's West Side involving multiple homicides by supposed serial killer Alex Mercer. They are forced to wear Hazmat Suits before entering the scene where the forensics show the detectives that all of the corpses including the dogs have some sort of bite and claw marks. During the investigation, Garcia exclaims that there is no way these killings were done by a single man.

The scene then shifts back to the 60s in Hope, Idaho where Randall leads a team of Blackwatch Operatives in infiltrating the seemingly deserted town in order to secure the 'package'. They are subsequently ambushed by a large group of Infected and an intense fight breaks out. Randall and his team secures the package in an underground bunker and starts moving to the extraction point with his remaining men.

The upcoming game looks great, but I cannot deny the greatness of this book, it's just SO GOOD that I can't wait for the next issue to be released. The back story of the series (which is also the game's I think) is pretty interesting. The first pages being set in the Vietnam conflict with a unit of G.Is storming the jungle, the main character's name (at least in this story) is Peter Randall, a bad-ass lieutenant who is tough-as-nails and an enemy of the ever-dangerous communists, who is facing t...
