Follow up to the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths. And as such this title had a lot to live up to. Its predecessor was one of the most important limited series in the history of DC and reset the DC Universe by decades. "Infinite Crisis", the second in what was to become the Crisis trilogy (ending with 2008's Final Crisis) made a similar dramatic shift to the reality of the DC Universe, bringing back the Multiverse, killing several major characters, and introducing a number of new heroes and villains. Several other titles led directly into the double sized first issue in this series, which showed Earth on the edge of destruction by Lex Luthor's Secret Society of Super Villains.

At the same time, Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman met to discuss just how far apart they had grown. With the Earth - and the Universe - heading for destruction, some long lost heroes came out of retirement to help - Superboy Prime, Superman of Earth 2 and Alexander Luthor (sole survivor of Earth 3, where his father Lex was the only hero). As the saga continued, it transpired that Alexander Luthor had planned the crisis in an attempt to recreate his own lost reality. By the end, Superboy Prime had established himself as one of DC's most persistant villains; he had also killed Kal - L and Connor Kent, before being captured and imprisoned by the Green Lantern Corps.

Many others were changed forever. A new Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes) was created (replacing the deceased Ted Kord); the Spectre left in search of a new host body; and Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman were allies once more, paving the way for a relaunch of the Justice League of America in 2006.
