Chadwick is played by Currie Graham. Chadwick's first name has been changed to Calvin instead of Hesperus. Chadwick is a leading member in the Secret Empire which has been renamed the Council of Nine. Chadwick is the owner of Isodyne Technologies. Chadwick is married to Hollywood's most beloved star Whitney Frost but he was also having an affair with Jane Scott. Jane's body was later discovered in a lake that was frozen solid during the hottest day of the year. Detective Andrew Henry of the LAPD calls in SHIELD for any assistance that they could provide because he has worked on a similar case like this a few years back. The press are calling this recent case "The Lady of the Lake"

When Carter observes Jane's body at the coroner's office, Henry demonstrates another odd fact about the body. When Henry turned off the lights to the room, Jane's body glows as if it were radioactive. Henry and Carter suspect a particle accelerator must have been used to create this effect. They head to Isodyne and Dr. Jason Wilkes informs them that Jane Scott has been seen with Chadwick more than once. Wilkes tells Carter where they can find Chadwick and offers his services for any future developments in this case.

Carter and Jarvis head to the racetracks to confront Chadwick. Jarvis distracts Whitney Frost by asking her questions about her latest movie role while Carter asks Chadwick about Jane Scott. Chadwick tries to deter Carter's suspicions by agreeing to help her with her investigation in anyway possible. Unfortunately, things get worse when the coroner and Detective Henry end up frozen. Chadwick had paid off a crooked cop to eliminate the coroner and Detective Henry. The bodies are transported to a SHIELD facility but Chadwick executes an extraction plan. The SHIELD transport is attacked, SHIELD agents are killed and Chadwick reclaims the bodies. Afterwards, Chadwick goes to the Arena nightclub for a private meeting between him and the Council of Nine. The council feels that this fiasco with Jane Scott and Detective Henry could have been avoided if Chadwick were more careful.

They decide that Isodyne should be shut down before SHIELD does anymore digging around. Chadwick tries to insist that the Isodyne substance known as Zero Matter must be studied further because it will make atomic energy obsolete. The council tell Chadwick to focus on his senate race and rule that Isodyne is to close up shop. Even though Isodyne was closed off to the public, Wilkes managed to share some classified information about Isodyne with Agent Carter.

An unusual fission test in the desert created a black hole. The singularity sucked in everything nearby including equipment and people but it only last for a brief moment. When the black hole disappeared, Chadwick's surviving scientists manage to cultivate the zero matter. Zero matter has no heat conduction because it devours all energy. Wilkes built a containment unit for the Zero Matter. Carter takes it upon herself to steal the Zero Matter and she needs Wilkes' help to do it.

Carter's extraction plan was going smoothly until Whitney Frost shows up unexpectedly. Whitney had suffered a mental breakdown when she learned that Chadwick obeyed the council's demands about closing Isodyne and the fact that the director of her latest movie thinks she is getting too old for lead roles. Whitney believes the Zero Matter could slow and/ or reverse the aging process. A scuffle breaks out between Whitney and Wilkes which causes some of the Zero Matter to leak out. An explosion engulfs the both of them but only Whitney manages to survive. Whitney's body has become a vessel for Zero Matter.

Carter eventually learns that Whitney survived the explosion and confronts her about it at the studio. Whitney blows off Carter by saying that she knows nothing about the incident. Frost confides in Chadwick to eliminate Carter. Carter managed to procure a few files from Isodyne regarding the Zero Matter and discovered that Agnes Cully was the genius who made Zero Matter possible. It turns out Agnes Cully changed her name to Whitney Frost in order to hide her involvement with Isodyne. All of a sudden, Carter is attacked by Chadwick's top hitman Rufus Hunt.

Carter managed to wound Hunt but he still escapes. As for Frost, the director of her latest film tells Whitney that the studio is replacing her with someone younger unless she accepts his advances. Whitney succumbs to the director's perversions until he discovers a cut on her forehead which is leaking Zero Matter. The director freaks out but Frost silences him by absorbing his very being into her body. Later that night, Hunt reports his failure to Chadwick and Frost punishes Hunt by absorbing him just as she did with the director. The cut on her forehead gets even bigger.

Carter tails Chadwick and Frost in order to learn more about their work with Zero Matter. Carter eventually learns that Frost wants to replicate the same singularity that she created in the desert years ago through use of atomic bombs. According to SHIELD intelligence, the only place that has a readied supply of nuclear weapons is at Roxxon Oil. Carter pretends to be a dizzy intern in order to win the attention of Roxxon's CEO Hugh Jones and steal his key which will give her access to his secret stockpile. She is successful in getting the key but it seems she was too late. Frost had already entered Jones' nuclear complex.

Carter and her agents manage to keep Frost and hired goons distracted while Jarvis uses ingenuity to disarms the atomic bombs thereby rendering them useless to Frost. Jarvis was successful but Frost manages to slip away. Frost orders Chadwick to find another supply of atomic bombs for her. Chadwick pretends to agree to Frost's demands but instead he is only buying himself time in order to contact the council. Chadwick feels Frost is becoming unstable and he needs the council to decide on what needs to be done. Meanwhile, Carter finds out that Wilkes is still alive but not for long.

Wilkes condition is far worse than Frost. The Zero Matter causes Wilkes to phase in and out of the physical world. Wilkes deduces that he needs some of Frost's contaminated DNA in order to find a way to return to his physical form. Carter figures the best way to get close to Frost is at Chadwick's senatorial fundraiser and the only person who could achieve this impossible mission is the recently captured Dottie Underwood. Underwood orchestrated a heist not too long ago while posing as Agent Carter and was captured by SHIELD. Carter poses as a psychiatrist and makes a deal that Underwood can't refuse. Carter busts Underwood out of her confines and fills her in on the mission.

At the fundraiser, Jarvis is put in charge of handling Underwood while Dottie comes up with a plan to get Frost alone. As Jarvis and Underwood danced, Jarvis notices Vernon Masters, chief of the FBI branch in Los Angeles. It turns out Masters is a member of the Council of Nine. Underwood sees her window of opportunity as Frost heads to the ladies room. Dottie easily gets the sample that Carter needs but Underwood sticks around by hiding a nearby in order to gather more intel.

The Council of Nine enter the ladies room along with Chadwick. Frost demonstrates her ability to harness the Zero Matter. The Council is impressed but can't afford to take any chances with Frost's unstable mentality. The Council's goons attempt to ambush and sedate Frost but Frost has the upper hand. The Zero Matter flows out of Frost's body like the tentacles of an octopus. Frost absorbs half of the council as well as Chadwick who groveled for mercy. Frost spares Masters because his connection to the FBI may come in handy. Unfortunately, Underwood's cover is blown and she is captured by Masters. Frost and Masters torture Underwood for information. Ultimately, Frost breaks Underwood.
