    Early years

    Born in London, Ontario on February 21, 1979. Oldest of three kids, he has a brother and a sister. His Father is French-Canadian and his mother is Korean, they met each other in school.

    Before having his own original material published, Bryan Lee O'Malley worked on many comics at Oni Press between 2002 and 2005. He illustrated Jen Van Meter's mini-series, Hopeless Savages: Ground Zero and one-shot, B-sides: The Origin of the Dusted Bunnies. He also lettered Chynna Clugston's series Scooter Girl, as well as a number of other Oni Press books including some issues of Blue Monday.

    In 2003 O'Malley made his original graphic novel debut with Lost at Sea and has continued with his 6 volume original graphic novel series, Scott Pilgrim (from 2004 to 2010), all published by Oni Press.

    Private life

    O'Malley is also a songwriter/musician and works under the name Kupek ( visit site). Before Kupek he had been in a few other Toronto based bands.

    Currently O'Malley lives in North Caroline with his wife, fellow comic writer/illustrator Hope Larson. He is also known for having many cats.

    Scott Pilgrim has garnered O'Malley much attention for awards including the 2005 Doug Wright Award for Best Emerging Talent and three Harvey Award nominations. In 2006 he was nominated for an Eisner Award for Best Writer/Artist in Humor and won the Joe Shuster Award for Outstanding Canadian Comic Book Cartoonist (Writer/Artist). Other nominations that year included two Eagle Awards and a second Doug Write Award. In 2007 he won the Harvey Special Award for Humor.

    In 2010 the Scott Pilgrim series became a major motion picture directed by Edgar Wright and staring Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers. The movie also has an accompanying video game release available. The game and the film also have separate soundtracks.
