Ben Jacobs was a weapons engineer employed by Harlan Ryker. Michael Collins held Jacobs in contempt for his role in the military-industrial complex, not knowing that his own work was being used for the Deathlok project. When Michael's consciousness was placed into the Deathlok prototype Michael escaped the compound, and destroyed the advanced assault vehicles Jacobs was designing at the time.

Jacobs was then assigned to oversee the destruction of a dam in the Federative Republic of Estrella. Jacobs was given control of "Worker Ants" massive industrial robots used for the demolition of the dam. When Deathlok showed up to once again foil Cybertek's plans, Jacobs tried to use the Worker Ants to fight back, but was defeated and crippled in the fight.

When Deathlok gave S.H.I.E.L.D. the evidence to convict Ryker, Cybertek folded, leaving Jacobs without a job.

    The Ultimate War Machine

Jacobs, now a jobless cripple, and roundly humiliated, developed a vendetta against Michael Collins. He formed an alliance with former Cybertek mercenary Mainframe. He reinforced his crippled body with powerful cybernetics and designed a suit of power armor to use in combat. The two originally planned to take over and weaponize Deathlok. Deathlok soon broke free of their control, and Jacobs tried to fight the cyborg. Mainframe, injured and frustrated with Jacobs's vendetta, took remote control of Jacobs's cybernetics and forced him carry them both to safety with his armor.

    Cyberwar

Jacobs and Mainframe subsequently teamed up with Harlan Ryker to create and sell an army of elite cyborgs based upon the original Deathlok project. These Cyberwarriors were far more powerful than Deathlok, but Michael Collins, with the help of his reluctant allies Siege and the Wild Pack was able to destroy their operation.

Jacobs and his allies fled to another facility, deep undergrounds Paris where Deathlok, Siege, and their ally Coldblood attacked them. Ben's battlesuit was badly damaged, but when Ryker distracted the heroes with a bomb designed to destroy Paris, Jacbos and Ryker teleported away.

Jacobs would not remain free for long, as the cyborg heroes, with the help of S.H.I.E.L.D, captured them in the process of selling Cyberwarriors to terrorists.
