    Flying Tiger's true identity remains unknown but he used to be a professional football player and even played in the Super Bowl. He thought his life was over when his football career ended but he became a mercenary for hire and had a passion for murder. Flying Tiger would make his presence known when he ambushed a fatigued Spider Woman outside the San Francisco International Airport. Flying Tiger tells Spider Woman that she has made some heavy enemies. One of his clients gave him a contract to take her out permanently. Flying Tiger was capable of powered flight and his aerial assault on the crimson beauty was taking its toll. Flying Tiger's armor even protected him from Spider Woman's venom blast. Spider Woman was in unbearable pain since Flying Tiger slashed her back with his claws and she tries to flee. Flying Tiger cuts her off and forces her towards the Golden Gate Bridge. Spider Woman hits the roadway and tries to hide her movements behind the fog and traffic. Flying Tiger is impressed but he swoops down and broadsides a car, causing it to go over the edge. Spider Woman uses some of the snapped, vertical cables to secure the vehicle. She opens the car door and saves the family inside. Spider Woman was perched on a bridge girder when she was suddenly hit by the flying assassin. Spider Woman was over two hundred and thirty feet above the bay and hits the water like a stone. She doesn't reappear and Flying Tiger leaves Spider Woman for dead. Flying Tiger returns to the man that hired him and tells him the good news. General Nguyen Ngoc Coy was a refugee immigrant, turned millionaire businessman whose latest ambition was to become the new crime czar of San Francisco. The General was pleased and wanted the Flying Tiger to eliminate others that would oppose him as he consolidates his control over the bay area gangs.

    Spider Woman would recover from her injuries and witness a woman being kidnapped by one of the General's enforcers. Miss Han was a merchant that refused to pay protection money to the General's syndicate and tried to organize other merchants to cooperate with the police. Spider Woman saves Miss Han from her kidnappers but it attracts the attention of Flying Tiger. The two engage in aerial combat but Spider Woman's agility and swiftness aggravates Flying Tiger. Spider Woman keeps taunting and goading Flying Tiger until he makes a costly mistakes. Flying Tiger is blinded with fury and swoops toward Spider Woman. Flying Tiger takes a venom blast in the face and it momentarily blinds him. Spider Woman twists out of the way and Flying Tiger crashes into a support column from the Embarcadero freeway. Flying Tiger stumbles to the floor and is apprehended by the police.

    Creation

    Flying Tiger was created by Chris Claremont, Steve Leialoha and Bob Wiacek in 1981 and first appeared in Spider-Woman # 40.

    Story Arcs

    The Locksmith was once a successful escape artist until costume super-humans overshadowed interest in his act. The Locksmith partnered up with a mutant named Tick Tock, who had precognitive abilities and both men captured numerous heroes and villains. Numerous prisoners included Flying Tiger, Spider Woman, Gypsy Moth, Daddy Longlegs, Dansen Macabre, Enforcer, Nekra, Hangman, Tatterdemalion, the Shroud, the Werewolf , Poltergeist, Needle, Angar the Screamer and Killer Shrike. Flying Tiger and the rest of the prisoners wore harnesses that dampened their powers and placed in special cells that negated their abilities. Flying Tiger was placed in a tiny cell with walls that kept closing in on him and it negated his strength and ability to fly. Spider Woman managed to escape and free everyone from their cells. Flying Tiger and the rest of his former cellmates confront Locksmith and Tick Tock. The two villains surrender without a fight.

    Flying Tiger would later come into conflict with Jim Rhodes as Iron Man when he escorts a man named Regis Fuskey to South America. General Coy wanted Flying Tiger to kidnap Fuskey and take him to a secret base in the South American jungle. Flying Tiger was informed to wait until Fuskey's plane left America or the General would break a disagreement with the Kingpin. Jim Rhodes escorts Fuskey on his flight with the Iron Man armor inside a briefcase. The plane suddenly goes into a dive once it was over the South American jungle. Flying Tiger appears with a gun and smacks Jim Rhodes in the head. Flying Tiger leaves the plane with Fuskey and Rhodes' briefcase. Rhodes grabs a parachute and lands somewhere in the jungle. Flying Tiger takes Fuskey to an ally of General Coy named Colonel Perez. The colonel is not please with the idea of Fuskey giving his expertise on some of their enemies in the capitol. Senore Presidente orders some of his pilots to take flight and bomb Perez's base when they get there. Meanwhile Rhodes finds the secret base and Flying Tiger as he hits on a woman inside the camp. Flying Tiger offers her the briefcase but she tosses it behind some bushes near Rhodes. Flying Tiger discovers Rhodes wearing one of Iron Man's gauntlets. Rhodes could not connect the power pack in time and punches Flying Tiger out of desperation. Flying Tiger knocks out Rhodes and finds the rest of the Iron Man armor inside the case. Flying Tiger could hear some engines above his head but he thinks its just air reconnaissance. Flying Tiger goes back to Rhodes and pulls out a gun. The pilots above begin to drop bombs and one explosion knocks Flying Tiger away. Rhodes recovers the briefcase and changes into Iron Man. Flying Tiger tries to escape but Iron Man catches up to him and knocks him out with one punch.

    Acts of Vengeance

    Flying Tiger would be one of many super-powered criminals that attack the Fantastic Four during the Acts of Vengeance. Flying Tiger disguises himself in a trench coat and hat as members of the Fantastic Four testify in front of Congress. Flying Tiger and other super-criminals reveal themselves and attack. Flying Tiger is easily defeated when he flies right into the She-Thing's hand. Flying Tiger is apprehended and taken to the Vault, a maximum security installation for the incarceration of super human criminals.

    After a stint in the Vault, Flying Tiger is seen at the AIM Weapons Expo on an island protected by international law. Captain America, Diamondback and Falcon disguise themselves as Crossbones, Mother Night and Jack O Lantern so they can infiltrate this expo in hopes of getting information on a criminal named Snapdragon. Flying Tiger approaches the Falcon disguised as Jack O Lantern and asked him if he was Jason Macendale under that costume. The false Lantern says "no Tiger Lily, someone better" and the mercenary replies with a challenge after he was disrespected. Flying Tiger is ignored and he goes away. Batroc the Leaper arranged some pre-expo entertainment by testing the prowess of Crossbones who was actually Captain America in disguise. Flying Tiger is one of over a hundred super-foes in attendance. Batroc reveals to everyone that Crossbones was really Captain America and offered fifty thousand to the person that brings him down. All the hardened criminals including Flying Tiger rush the ring for a shot at the super soldier and a nice payout. Falcon shoots a cable line from his wrist gauntlet and wraps up Flying Tiger.

    Masters of Evil

    Flying Tiger joined the Crimson Cowl's Masters of Evil and would have numerous conflicts with the Thunderbolts. Their first battle with the Thunderbolts took place while the Masters of Evil was fighting the Black Widow on the West Side Docks in New York. The Thunderbolts wanted to know who these impostors were and decided to help Black Widow. Citizen V and the rest of the Thunderbolts demanded answers from the Crimson Cowl but she refused to explain herself. The Cowl emitted a burst of crimson light which blinded their foes and the Masters teleported away. The Masters of Evil were hired for security during business with an arms merchant dealing with high-tech weaponry when the Thunderbolts arrived. A battle ensued and Flying Tiger engaged Mach-1 in aerial combat. Flying Tiger was able to damage Mach-1's armor with his extreme speed and sharp claws. Flying Tiger and the rest of the Masters would escape when Techno broke out with some heavy artillery.

    Crimson Cowl offered the Thunderbolts to join her Masters of Evil which has become a for-profit organization. Crimson Cowl offered some incentives including generous base salaries, profit sharing and even a pension plan if they decide to join. They gave the Thunderbolts an ultimatum, join the Masters or suffer the consequences. The Thunderbolts would refuse to join and push back against the Masters. The Thunderbolts confronted them during a heist at the Bureau of Printing and Engraving outside of Fort Worth and the fight was on. It was round two for Flying Tiger and Mach-1 during this ferocious rematch. The two combatants would switch opponents and Flying Tiger was used as a punching bag by Moonstone and Atlas. Klaw would bombard the Thunderbolts with a powerful sound blast and incapacitate all his foes. The Thunderbolts were bounded by solid-sound cocoons until they were freed by the Dreadknight who was actually Hawkeye in disguise. The authorities would arrive and the Masters of Evil would escape once more.

    The Crimson Cowl would bring together twenty-five super villains into her Masters of Evil for one orchestrated plan to rule the world. Flying Tiger and the Masters of Evil would split up in different groups and acquire important components so they could install numerous weather modulators around the world. The world would bow to their feet after they unleashed cataclysmic storms in various countries. Hawkeye and five Thunderbolts members discovered their base and devised a plan to take down the Masters. Moonstone would join the Masters so she can get inside their defenses while the rest of the T-Bolts took down five foes and wear their costumes as disguises. Moonstone was being held inside a cell until she called Flying Tiger and asked him to take her to the Crimson Cowl. Moonstone revealed to the Cowl that the T-Bolts were disguised as members of the Masters of Evil. Hawkeye and the T-Bolts removed their disguises and all hell broke loose. The T-Bolts were gaining the upper hand until Flying Tiger grabs Hawkeye from behind and threatens to rip his throat out. The T-Bolts say they were surrendering but hit the Masters with a blitzkrieg attack when their defenses were down. Jolt punches Flying Tiger and he releases Hawkeye. Moonstone betrays the Masters and takes down the Crimson Cowl. Flying Tiger and the rest of the Masters of Evil are defeated and placed into custody.

    Fear Itself

    Flying Tiger and other super powered felons would escape from the Raft after a mystic hammer crashes into the prison facility. Steve Rogers informs Giant-Man of the situation and he teleports to Long island with Justice and Quicksilver to help recapture some of the hostiles at large. Flying Tiger and Dragonfly are swatted into a wall by Giant-Man during a brief fight and eventually detained once more.

    Powers & Abilities

    Flying Tiger wears body armor under a tiger suit and is capable of powered flight. His suit allows him to fly at incredible speed and maneuver in the air with very little effort. Flying Tiger's speed combined with his superb aerial skills allow him to strike with precision and accuracy. He has enhanced strength, durability, endurance and a set of claws. Flying Tiger has also been known to carry handguns and pistols.
