As the terminally ill Firestorm's powers reassert themselves full blast, his elemental aspect returns to Earth to reclaim his human half. But when Raymond resists, Captain Atom and the Justice League must prevent the Nuclear Man and the Fire Elemental from destroying each other.

The Extreme Justice team witness the return of the elemental Firestorm, Martin Stein, back to Earth to be reunited with Ronnie Raymond. He wants Ronnie to merge consciousnesses with him, to allow Ronnie to witness everything he has seen in the universe. However, the elemental Firestorm is unaware of the property damage he is creating by just his presence. The Extreme Justice team rush to control the damage, while Captain Atom tries to get the elemental Firestorm to stop. Elemental Firestorm bats Captain Atom away, all the while elatedly telling Ronnie the stories of what he has seen. Finally, Ronnie gets Stein to calm down, and assume a less damaging form. Ronnie declines Stein’s offer to travel the cosmos. Stein is saddened, but honors Ronnie’s request. Stein returns to space, but as a parting gift, cures Ronnie of his cancer and restores his transmutative powers. With nowhere else to go, Ronnie accepts Captain Atom’s offer to join Extreme Justice as Firestorm.
