I don't know about the rest of you 'viners but I was always a fan of the Elseworlds stories.
DC gave us some good imaginary stories with some great ideas we'd not see other wise with out confusing continuity or having to start up a whole new universe.
Then some mad Scot came a long and we were lumbered with the stoopid multiverse idea again.
Well I've just read that DC's givin' us a great new Elseworlds tale in August and I for one am lookin' forward to it.
The story imagines a world were Jor-El and Lara Escape Kryton with baby Kal-El.
Here's hopin' DC get around to fixing the Scot's other mistakes after he's done.
(No offence to Scottish folk in general :D )
Elseworlds
Concept » Elseworlds appears in 301 issues.
'Elseworlds', or 'Imaginary Stories' are tales where a fresh concept or idea is tried on an existing character or storyline. This often leads to a new and fresh take on existing characters. 'Elseworlds' is also when the narrator give characters new story lines, and concepts.
Elseworlds are back :D
awesome, I love Elseworlds. Speeding Bullets was really cool. and I liked the two part Elseworlds story that took place in Superboy Annual#1 and I think an Adventures of Superman Annual. These aliens take over Earth and there's only 7 heroes left. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Superboy, Green Lantern, Flash, and Lex Luthor inside Metallo's body, making Matellex.
As ideas go Elseworlds beats a multiverse alday every day.
Elseworlds allows any story idea where as a multiverse just opens up the idea of Sliders/ Exiles style universe hopping shenanigans. And that's been done.
Oh sweet! I love elseworlds! I tend to like the Batman ones more though. Eh I'll still probably get this.
" this looks very cool, but can't help but think Lara looks like Diana with those braclets. "Looks like she's got a head band too :P
I'm just glad to see Elseworlds back. I hate the multiverse.
" I bet they will make Superman bad so we think it's a great ideia things are as they are! "That'd be pretty weak.
There's been some good Elsewrolds stuff before.
" Glad to see so much love for the Elseworlds. HEY DC! Notice no one standin' up for the multiverse? "In a way, Elsworlds belong to the multiverse
" @Gylan Thomas said:I'm not so sure." Glad to see so much love for the Elseworlds. HEY DC! Notice no one standin' up for the multiverse? "In a way, Elsworlds belong to the multiverse "
I still think the multiverse is a bad idea.
52 universes most of which just wont be used enough for them to matter if at all? When they brought it in they were sayin' it opens up new story opportunities. Only one I can see is some thing similar to Exiles.
Why restrict it to 52 as well? Why not infinite?
Elseworlds just works better. Tell a story and leave it at that. No need for a multiverse linked to the main universe.
But that was only due to the nature of that story. Universe crossing over get's old quick. The Elseworlds concept is a way better idea. And what if writers end up with more than 52 elseworlds ideas? What then?" @Voidheart said:
" the elsewords apply to the 52 earths. "yea, when they done red son that Superman later appered in infinite crisis along with the superman from the dark knight strikes back "
I just today bought an Elseworlds comic, it's amazing. It's A Green Lantern and it's called 1001 Emerald Nights and it basically puts GL in arabia with a magic "lamp" lantern.
I remember when I first got into GL reading that he was based on Aladdin, and that they almost names Alan Scott, Alan Ladd as a play on the name Aladdin.
It's a gorgeous issue!
