History

El'qa Squa Zreenah spent his life fighting against the Statejians. Only when he received a Green Lantern power ring did he realize that their defeat might actually be possible. El-qa Sqa Zreenah was in the midst of a vicious space battle with the Statejians, an alien race which maintained an almost supernatural ability to strategically calculate a battle and anticipate their enemies every move. Outfitted with yellow hulled "dragonfly" battleships, the invaders proved too tough for the Green Lantern of Sector 2234.

Despite fighting bravely, El-qa Sqa Zreenah was downed by enemy fire and crashed on a nearby planet. He was gravely wounded and believed he would soon be dead. As protocol dictated, he willed his ring to scan the planet for a suitable replacement.

However, the planet he landed on was populated by an avian species of easily frightened creatures. When approached by the ring, nearly ever single man, woman, and child on the planet fainted on the spot. The exception was Perdoo, an inmate in an insane asylum.

Perdoo was taken to El-qa Sqa Zreenah by the ring where he barely listened to the Lantern instruct him in the finer points of this sacred duty. Perdoo appeared oddly distracted and detached from reality, however he took the ring and reengaged the enemy in space.

Seeing the invaders as nothing more then "butterflies" who did not play nicely, Perdoo's unorthodox behavior completely baffled the highly analytical species. As a result, Perdoo easily defeated them without even knowing what had actually occurred.

Returning to the planet's surface, Perdoo found that El-qa Sqa Zreenah was not as gravely injured as he had first believed. The senior Lantern retrieved his ring and was soon surprised to find his replacement being carried off by two orderlies who had tracked down Perdoo from the asylum.

El-qa Sqa Zreenah would resume his career as a Lantern. Since this encounter, it has been revealed that the Guardians of the Universe have granted the gentle Perdoo a ring of his own and a place in the Green Lantern Corps as his partner in Sector 2234. El'qa takes life extremely seriously and finds little humor, an idea that baffles his odd partner.
