Dave Landers and Randy O'Brien complete their escape from the Pitt. Now MIA from the military, they head to New York City to hide. There they encounter Jenny Swensen, Charly Beck, Merriam Sorenson and Stephanie Harrington, who are under Phillip Voigt's mind control, and savagely beat Landers and O'Brien, preparing to kill them.
Voight stops the assault, using it to illustrate the group's complete helplessness before his powers, and sends them on their way.
