Hello all. I am new to this site and the comic world as of recently. I went into a local comic book store to look around and took a look at Deadpool. I had heard about him through the Wolverine movie, but mostly heard how wrongly he was portrayed. I looked up on the internet what he was really like and was instantly drawn to the character. I went to my local comic book store, but only bought one. I was far from disappointed.
I've done extensive research as to different series that he was in, but I am very low on spare cash to fund my expenditure.

In your opinion, which Deadpools series are most worth the effort? I've heard alot of good things on his "merc with a mouth" storyline and also became curious of the marvel zombie issues he was in (I think it was 3 and 4). I have also heard good things about "Deadpool & Cable."

Are there any writers/artists I should stay away from?

I liked Daniel Way's run, at least issues 6-25 or so. There are quite a lot of good moments in there even though some hardcore Wade fans dismiss it.

My only experience of him is in Uncanny X-Force, and I think if you don't mind him being in a team (don't worry he still gets his chances to shine) then it's a great read.

Deadpool Classic ( by Joe Kelly ) is a must-read.
Cable & Deadpool ( by Fabian Nicieza ) is a bit more modern than the previous, and is awesome as well.
Deadpool current run ( by Daniel Way ) is something a lot of people enjoy, but if you really want to know the character, it sucks. Because Daniel Way kind of fucked Deadpool up. ( I'm one of those fans Mr Unknown talks about ). The simple fact it: it's not bad. It simply isn't great either. Cable & Deadpool for example, was great. Daniel Way simply provides you with one funny gimmick after another and doesn't really give you an actual story line.
Uncanny X-Force is currently one of the best running series at Marvel. It's dark, it's gritty, it's amazingly well written and illustrated. But it only features Deadpool as a team member. Thus if you really want something with the focus on Deadpool , this might not be the way to go. Though it is awesome.

I'm pretty new myself, but I've enjoyed the one shots, esp Lady Deadpool. I didn't enjoy prelude to deadpool cor though.

    There's a Dark Reign storyline that's good.

Hell, it's Deadpool, as long as he's being followed around by little yellow boxes it's all good.

Gotta warn you though that he's very addictive!

What could be a good ol talk about Deapool, without a rant about Daniel Way?

@DeathpooltheT1000: I'm not saying it sucks by definition. But if you really want to learn to know the character, Daniel Way's run simply isn't advisable. Sure it has its good moments and it's funny etc. But it certainly isn't the best Deadpool run out there and has no real character development at all. Though the latest arc ( even though it isn't original in any way ) looks like it might actually be pretty good.

Ways could do awesome thing, the main problem is that he never read comics before he start writting a character.
