    Throughout the 19th Century and into the early 20th Century, there existed a vicious crime syndicate known simply as 'The Black Coats' that controlled almost all the underhanded dealings in Europe and abroad. Their history seemed to stretch back further in human history, to medieval times. In the Hexagon Comics universe, as times continued to change, so did the Black Coats.

    Sometime after World War 2 the group changed it's name to CRIMEN, and has since remained a thorn in the side of justice. Coming up against heroes such as the wraith-like John Mist (Jean Brume), various iterations of the stalwart Guardian of the Republic, and various incarnations of the super-powered alien Homicron.
