Civil War
Following a catastrophic tragedy caused by superhumans, the US Government passes a Super-Human Registration Act that requires all super-powered individuals in the country to reveal their identities, disclose their powers and personal details, and register as government employees or risk indefinite incarceration. This causes a deep rift in the hero community, with some backing the Act while others oppose it.
Who in your opinion should have won the Civil War
It was a war between comrades & friends. There weren't any real winners or losers.
I agree totally. I find it hard to beleive that a seasoned veteran like Capt. America didn't take into account all the collateral damage he'd cause when he chose to fight the government." anti reg for me they had a better cause and far more powerful teams Cap shouldnt have surrendered "

That's kin of a gray area really. I mean the government has the right to make such laws and to expect accountability from superheroes." @TheEverLovinThing: cap wasnt in the wrong tony and the government were "
Anti-reg is classic and cooler. It does give heroes a certain amount of freedom that's required to get the job done. It works in fiction, but in real life... probably not.
Remember at the end? When Cap said they were winning the war, but not the argument? If he hadn't have realized that and stopped fighting, he would have won.
Pro reg, and for good reasons. You can't beat up Iron Man, turn to congress and say, " see I won. Change the law"
The North, definitely. We've all seen what happens in Alternate History where the South won the Civil war. :)
Sorry couldn't resist. >.>
Anti-registration, the information would be too dangerous in the wrong hands.
You can if your Captain America." Pro reg, and for good reasons. You can't beat up Iron Man, turn to congress and say, " see I won. Change the law" "
Yup, they should have had Captain America throw a coup.
He could have done it in the name of what is right
then begin to try to create a Utopia where he believes he is taking care of the American people, but found that he is really crushing the American spirit with to much government intervention.
Would have been better than Dark Reign,
I think all of the characters who weren't involved in the Civil War should have teamed up and slapped both sides silly.
If Captain America presented the evidence that Tony Stark was the mastermind behind the Civil War (check Frontline - Sally Floyd and Ben Urich knew the truth, but decided to sit on it), he could have moral victory even if his side lost the war.
In short they should both win. Story wise Iron Man should have won. Then they could have this whole story arc portraying how it effects Superheroics in general, then Captain America could go back in time and fix the time line allowing Capt. America to win.
It's funny. I'm looking at what's happening in the middle east and it makes me think Iron Man should have won, but only because he was right. Technically if Captain America didn't want to register he should have staged a peaceful protest, not go to all out world. But would that have made a good story, maybe?
The real question is why civil war at all? why did Iron man not just tell the truth? I think killer beings for outer space is a pretty good trump card to play.
The end of Civil War was horrible. Cap surrendering because it wasnt the American way? STUPID ending.
See but it was the law. I mean yes it was followed through badly but it's hard to have either side really win for good. They had to have Secret Invasion to sweep it away. I'm not saying the pro-registration side should have won but I figured from the beginning that there was no way either side was going to win completely.
If cap had beaten Tony it wouldn't have changed anything, the anit-reg movement would have had to start a guerrilla campaign against the government in hope of ether a comprise or an eventual regime change
I agree. Not to mention that by surrendering he betrayed those who fough on his side.
And that's a story worth reading.the anit-reg movement would have had to start a guerrilla campaign against the government in hope of ether a comprise or an eventual regime change
It never should have been about having powers, it should have been about being a vigilante. I think in that context registration makes sense. But breaking into Luke Cage's house at the stroke of midnight when he's not doing anything just because he has powers? That's wrong. That's like mutant registration.
Well if the people didn't barge in like animals and restrained Captain America, then Steve would've made his point and I think Tony would've heard what he had to say. The people were stupid because they knew damn well Steve isn't a murderer, and wasn't going to kill Stark. So, had Steve finished what he was about to do at the end of Civil War #7, I think the whole assassination and whatnot would've never happened. All Tony had to do was get off his high horse and listen to what the hell was going on around him.
And if you ask me, the whole SHRA was a dumb idea... At least the way they were going about it. Should vigilantes be illegal in the Marvel U? Absolutely, but just because you have powers doesn't mean you should have to sign up for anything. Just the people with powers (or not in the case of some heroes) who intend to put their lives on the line and "fight the good fight". And if you wanted to continue to be a superhero, just tell SHIELD your information. It's not like they don't have it anyway. The public shouldn't have to know the name and background of the superheroes, they should just be thankful that they're even saving them at all. The people in the Marvel U were so ungrateful.
