What is it about eerie dolls that stir our imagination about exorcism and horror?
Garbage Pail Kids, Annabelle, and Chucky all have become cult favorite doll-spook avatars, and comics adaptations of the Child's Play horror film franchise delight audiences.
Like the timeless Golem-horror story of Frankenstein (Mary Shelley), Chucky's storied control over terror and unnatural creation make him a perfect doll-omen avatar.
Chucky is not scary because he's a miniature child-like doll but because we are spooked thinking that a simple child's doll can inhabit a malicious spirit intent on turning the doll into a demon.
This is a great horror film franchise adaptation achievement for comic book writers/fans.
Would you want a vintage Chucky doll for a Halloween present? What if you found out the doll was creepy?
I think comic book writers have under-explored storyboarding potential in making Annabelle Chucky's sister.
