Tony maybe depressed that his sister might never be avenged, but elsewhere Savoy is planning to break out of prison.

    The Good & The Bad

Now the story is moving somewhere! Tony takes a backseat in this issue as we focus on Savoy and why he's really in prison. Three issues ago, we saw Colby sock Savoy in the back of the head and he took him to a maximum security prison. Of course since they were partners, it didn't really make any sense for Colby to do this unless it was all part of some larger plan. Thankfully, John Layman has given us a reason for this randomness and everything makes sense now because of it. That reason would be none other than....

    "....The Bird Flu"

That's right! The one epidemic that caused chicken to be outlawed throughout the world. Now as we wait patiently for Layman to show to the reader what really was the cause, it does make us forget that Tony still hasn't killed the Vampire. This may or may not be a good or bad thing. However, knowing that Savoy is thinking long-term and Tony is thinking short-term, it leaves questions to be asked on how these two worlds [Savoy's revelation of the Bird Flu and Tony's hunt for the Vampire Cibopath] are going to stop being two stories and finally become one.

Rob Guillory's artwork never ceases to amaze me! The colors and art style really capture the CHEW world.

And you know what that means! Time to pause for dramatic effect and wait five issues before we get the answers. Wonderful.

Every time the characters get knowledge on a major plot point, the reader never really finds out until two or three issues down the road. While it does build up tension to finally understanding why the bird flu occurred, it kind leaves us wanting the answer next issue and not five from now. Seeing as this has happened in the past, more than likely the readers will not be getting the answers we so crave to get from this series.

    The Verdict

As times in the past, it looks like we are going to have to hold on a little while longer before we finally get the answers on what caused the Bird Flu pandemic. However, that is a really good excuse to have if looking for a reason to continue to pick this title up monthly. Overall 3 out of 5.
