Charizard
Character » Charizard appears in 76 issues.
#006 Charizard is a dual-type Fire/Flying Pokémon. It can mega evolve into Mega Charizard X or Mega Charizard Y. Mega Charizard X is a dual-type Dragon/Fire Pokémon. Mega Charizard Y has the same typing as Charizard, Fire/Flying.
Why is Charizard so overrated?
Something tells me that none of you have been on Serebii. Charizard fanboys are rampant on virtually every pokemon site I've been too other than Smogon.
Lol, wut?
1) 4× weakness to rock
2) Pitiful defense and HP
3) Average attack
4) Mediocre speed
Tell me more about how he deserves the hype he gets.
I'm just perpetually frustrated that Gary Oak's Blastoise lost to Ash's Charizard during the Indigo League in the TV show.
That was never right. Ever.

- Only flying starter - flying is a near-must on all teams due to utility
- Fantastic and diverse move pool and egg type
- Awesome appearance
- One of the only pokemon with 2 megas
- One of his megas fixes his 4x to rock and both fix everything else.
- Ash's Charizard was not only the first fully evolved pokemon he got, but it had more character growth than Ash himself
Charizard is a pretty good Pokemon dude. Its not a pokemon god, and if you want to say its overrated from that perspective fine, but its still good.

Of course we haven't.
And Charizard amongst us childhood Pokefans has a dear place, but that's about it. I can only speak for myself, of course.

1. It's cool it's flying, but don't forget, one of those Megas makes it a Dragon so it loses it part of it's bonuses.2. It's not bad at all. I just never really enjoyed using it.
3. It's not ugly, but there are plenty of better-looking starters. Even among Fire-Type starters, it only beats out Emboar (and possibly Delphox,) lookwise.
4. I'll never understand why Charizard got two Megas. But then again, I don't understand why he's so popular either so eh. But as I stated earlier, that can come back to bite him, depending.
You're right. He's not bad, but there's no reason he should really be as popular as he is. (Then again, no Pokemon should really be that popular, I feel.) I chalk it up to Red having one.
@scouterv: Mega X can still use fly.

The tv series never has had any logic to it.

1) Okay, that's not much in my opinion as there are superior flying types that you can acquire throughout the game.
2)Fantastic and diverse movepool? Lol wut? Could you please elaborate?
3) That is debatable.
4) I was referring to Charizard. Not charmander not charmeleon, not mega X or y. Sorry for not making that clear.
5) Ashs charizard was an ungrateful lowlife in my opinion.
It's an okay pokemon in my opinion. I just don't see how people can compare him to the likes of Blaziken/Dragonite/Staraptor etc.

@greatcaesarsghost: You're right, you do speak only for yourself. I'm a childhood pokemon fan and Charizard does not hold a dear place to me.
Are you going to reply to any of my points? You don't have to if you can't or don't want to. I just want to know.

1. There are actually not that many impressive flying pokemon in the game overall. The only real good ones are subtypes, many of hwich are dragon that take a while to get.
2. This is pretty silly response if you ask me. Just take one look at his movepool. He learns an enormous of amount of moves, through TMs, breeding, tutors...etc. Pretty common knowledge.
3. Considering we've all ready established most of this is opinionated...
4. I don't see why they are off the table. Its the same pokemon. I never met anyone who didn't use the furthermost evolution of a line.
5. again...opinion.
1) Pidgeot and Fearow are both superior flying types and can both be found very early in the game.
2) What is diverse about his movepool? What coverage moves does he have for water/rock/electricity? He has a few dragon moves such as dragon claw and dragon rage but his mediocre attack stats and lack of STAB make those pretty useless on anything other than a dragon.
3) His small movepool and the fact that there are superior flying, fire and dragon types are not my opinion. Those are the facts.
4) They're off the table because they aren't overrated. Classic Charizard is the overrated one.
5) And my opinion stands, Ashs charizard was an ungrateful lowlife.

1. Pidgeot and Ferrow suck. Very mediocre stats and narrow movepool. Pidgeot is only now becoming viable with his mega.
2. Earthquake, Bulldoze, Steel Wing, Metal Claw, and Solar Beam.
3. They are not facts at all.
4. No he isn't. Bellyzard is an awesome pokemon. Solar Power Charizard is awesome.
5. Not really. He outleveled' Ash. It was pretty obvious what was happening. Ash is a horrid trainer.
Your problem seems to be you're uninformed.
I always just picked the pokemon that looked cool and would help me win.
I seriously never put more then 5 seconds of thought about who would make up my team.
1) I didn't say that they were great. I said that they were superior flying types. They're faster hit harder and though they have a smaller movepool they also have less weaknesses.
2) I'll give you earthquake, however none of the other moves you mentioned would instill any fear in my heart if I had a water electric or rock type.Solarbeam takes 2 turns, couple that with charizard mediocre speed and defenses and virtually any starting water type would sweep him before he lands it. The rest of the moves you mentioned are hindered by his average attack stats and lack of STAB. In other words he won't hit hard enough to finish and is too slow to hit twice.
3) Not facts? Are you telling me there aren't superior fire, flying and dragon types out there? That's how it sounds, sorry if I'm wrong.
4) I can give you many fire and flying types who are far superior, charizard is only useful in game and in the lower competitive tiers. He doesn't stand a chance against a OU team, nor does he have a place on a good one.
5) I agree that Ash is a horrible trainer, how ever he still saved the ungrateful whelps life. How is he repayed? With disrespect.
@dagmar_merrill: That's cool in game, however if you play competitively you'll need to put more thought into your team. If you want to be successful at least.
@gymgoer205: Charizard also learns Focus Blast and if you teach him Sunny Day he isn't going down by Water attacks and Solar Beam won't need 2 turns. And his speed isn't mediocre, he's faster then plenty of water pokemon. Just invest in speed.
Seriously. Not that difficult.
Besides. There isn't a single pokemon that is going 1v6. Pokemon compliment each other. There's plenty of room for Charizard on teams. You keep talking about competitive battling and yet your little vendetta makes you think you've seem to think Charizard is fighting by himself.
Anyway this conversation has played it self out. You don't like him, ok, whatever. No one cares.
1) Again, his lack of STAB and mediocre attack stats make me laugh at charizard with focus blast. The sunny day/solar beam set is the only set I'd use and even that would get him knocked out in the first round of any higher tier battle. His speed IS mediocre, unless of course you're battling in NU. If I had any UU or higher water type I would stomp a charizard running sunny day/solar beam.
Btw, I made 4 other points. Did you not see them or are you just not answering them? You don't have to if you can't or don't want to. I just want to know.
@fallschirmjager: I just saw your edit. Sorry to see that you're leaving without addressing my other points. I'll be okay though.
Enjoy your day.
@mysticmedivh: Strong case.
@mysticmedivh: Strong case.
Even as a child, Charizard was the real OG.
@mysticmedivh: Number one in the pokedex would disagree.
@mysticmedivh: Number one in the pokedex would disagree.
Bulbasaur may have been the first Pokémon in the Pokédex (as a matter of fact, Rhydon was the first Pokémon created by Satoshi Taijiri) but he was no gangster. Charizard was the real OG with the reputation on the street.
@mysticmedivh: Lol, wut?
@mysticmedivh: Lol, wut?
Charizard is the OG of Pokémon.
@mysticmedivh: No, that's Magikarp.
Kneel before the might of Blastoise.
This is the first time in my life, I have ever heard of Charizard being over rated.
@mysticmedivh: Pffft!! Everyone knows the starter with the most street cred is Blastoise... Charizard was just a fat dragon/not-dragon.
