Visually and emotionally flat from start to finish 1

"Captain Atom" was one of those DC New 52 titles that really needed to blow me away to keep me on board for more than one issue. Not only did it not blow me away, it turned out to be a drab and almost laborious read. J.T. Krul tries writing a story that both introduces us to a character and makes us care about his plight but I found it hard to invest in Captain Atom or his story. We get a sequence in the middle of the book that introduces us to the supporting characters working in a hidden rese...

Captain Atom! Riping off his own ripoff, yet still interesting 0

After a very disappointing last week, I got some new 52 stuff and of course as i said in my blog before i was going to pick this one up yet with the thought that it was going to suck after reading such tittles as mr terrific (dropped it at the first issue), i feared this was going to fall at the same category but you know what? this is very interesting and I will give it a few more issue to decide if it continue it or not.Captain atom has never been a character i was interested in before and we ...

A fine line between dedication and obsession 2

In reading this issue i couldn't help but to compare it to the Mister Terrific title which had come out previously in the new 52.  In terms of theme and content both seem to be very similar on the surface for two very not similar heroes.  A focus on more realistic scientific principles as opposed to comic book science seemed to be a hallmark of both, but this issue fell a little short of the other one.  Mister Terrific seemed to be trying to edge in on the fan base for Iron Man, and to be honest...

Wait, Why Is There a Volcano in New York? 1

Offering up some small signs of potential, Captain Atom ultimately doesn't show much else as it takes some obvious cues from the well known analogue of the title character and turns Captain Atom into a mash-up of them both. A lack of real character depth and personality dilutes it all, though. This issue features Captain Atom with a flame-like poof coming off the top of his head and with the power to apparently transmute matter. So my question is... did Firestorm's revamp come out a week early?Si...

Captain Atom isn't an average book... It's a boring book that is average. The captions of Captain Atom thinking was just boring and a snooze fest, but more importantly there are more problems with it than just that...Page 1 is completely out of place. Both the thoughts and the images. They don't play a role this book and they shouldn't be in this book. They are setting up something for the next book, but I don't care this book because they have nothing to do with going on. The same can be said fo...

A world of atomic problems.... 0

The Story:Captain Atom is back in the new DCnU. He jumps right into action, taking down a guy in Chicago who's in a giant battlesuit/armor type thing. Right from the get go we also see him having some problems controlling his abilities. We also get to meet his supporting cast and they're a couple of new faces. One of the new faces, Dr. Megala seems to be aware of Atom's impedning troubles and advises him against the use of his powers. SPOILER WARNING: Click here to reveal hidden content. We a...

I CAN'T GET THESE ****ING NUMBERS OUT OF MY HEAD! 1

The Good: I like the new logo, it's pretty cool.A lot of the background art was cool, especially when it comes to robots and machinery and stuff. The thing he fights at the end is pretty damn awesome. And after that, the big final scene does capture the intense tension of the moment. The panel layouts, inner monologue, and artwork all blend beautifully. But what really seals the deal is the broken lettering on the final page. Fantastic. The Bad: Normally I really like 'Artgem's' covers, but this...

    Pretty Boring 0

The Story: Captain Atom learns more about his powers. He attempts to stop a volcano in Manhattan. My Thoughts:So far writer J.T. Krul has failed to impress me with his work on his two series out of the new 52. Green Arrow #1 didn't live up to my expectations at all and while I had no expectations going into this issue, I wasn't impressed at all. I know nothing about Captain Atom at all going into this issue. I thought the cover was pretty cool and decided to give the issue a shot. He seems like ...

J.T. Krul is way out of his element. 19

This Comic was doomed from the beginning.  The "Charlton" characters, like Captain Marvel don't fit well in the DCU when you really think about it.  Captain Atom is a great example, his Alan Moore composite of Dr. Manhattan is far more popular and Iconic then Captain Atom is.  Speaking of Dr. Manhattan many will see how this comic is remnant of Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen.  From the look to demeanor fans of Watchmen will see more Manhattan then Classic Captain Atom.  I feel this change of direct...

The Right Kind of Different... 0

This was originally posted on me blog. Check that out HERE, me hearty. Yargh. *pirate solicit*If you happened to be one of the three or four people who read my Green Arrow #1 review, you may remember me not being too keen on writer JT Krul's first effort in DC's New 52. Perhaps it's because I hold such personal affection for the character that I just couldn't separate his past adventures from the reinterpretation Krul made in this whole revamp... thing.Or maybe it just wasn't a very good comic. ...
