Cable, Domino, and Douglock attempt to save Renee Majcomb from Bastion's First Strike team. Renee, however, is well protected by a mysterious protector.

    Synopsis

With Professor Xavier out of the picture, Moira MacTaggart is worried about some of the members of Xavier's Underground. She asks Cable to check up on Renee Majcomb, a Genoshan refugee working on a cure for the Legacy Virus. As Cable, Domino and Douglock approach the lab of Renee Majcomb, the trio are attacked by a team of mutant hunters known as First Strike, a covert military troupe under the command of Bastion's Operation: Zero Tolerance task force.

Nearby, a First Strike member is incapacitated by a shadowy entity. Cable investigates but is then attacked by another First Striker, but is aided by Douglock. As the pair interrogate the enemy, Domino confronts the shadowy entity, revealed to be mutant ally of Majcomb, named Abyss.

Majcomb meets Cable and introduces Abyss, a mutant friend set as her protector. She attacked by another First Striker and Abyss angrily leaps to defend her, not realizing his powers short circuit the First Strikers' cybersynaptic suits and shutting down their minds. Cable persuades Abyss to release the intruders. He and demands that First Strike take their comatose companion and leave.

In the end, Majcomb refuses to leave with Cable, preferring to research the Legacy Virus there with Abyss, who is infected.

Yes, this issue does have a bit of action in it, but it isn't balls-to-the-effing-wall action. Tactics make sense in approaching the threat and the reader doesn't feel so inundated with pulse-pounding elements. But this issue isn't great simply because it feels like it breathes, but mostly because...
