"Winter Soldier" appears to confirm that it's an adaptation of Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting's Captain America story where Bucky was found to be alive, and operating as a brainwashed Soviet assassin. Sitcom veterans Anthony and Joe Russo were confirmed as directing Winter Soldier.
Bucky Barnes
Character » Bucky Barnes appears in 2102 issues.
Believed dead near the end of World War II only to have been found and brainwashed by the Soviets for the next 50 years, Captain America's former sidekick now continues to defend his country from the shadows against those who would threaten it as legendary spy and assassin, the Winter Soldier. He became the new Captain America to honor his friend Steve and he joined the Avengers. When Steve returned as Captain America, Bucky took on the identity of the Winter Soldier once again.
Winter Soldier Announced for Second Captain America Movie!
Pretty awesome. Looking forward to seeing it. They should also make a Civil War movie, or a World War Hulk animated film. (like Planet Hulk)
I really wished they waited for the 3rd movie to do this, it just seems too soon to bring Bucky back.

Terrible quality,but I got a Batman Begins vibe,that's great.
This is awesome news. Winter Soldier is my favorite story arc ever.
I wonder if this will be a sign that they will be doing Civil War in one of the upcoming Avengers movies. Winter Soldier is the immediate story proceeding Civil War for Cap and Extremis is right before Civil War for Iron Man.
Why would you wait till the 3rd movie? A big theme of Steve's is him grieving over the lost of Bucky, and a big thing for Bucky is him redeeming himself. You can't do all that in one movie.
It makes perfect sense for not only Steve to grieve but then feel that it is his fault Bucky was captured, brainwashed and killed dozens of people. This is a perfect opportunity for Steve to grow and for Bucky to redeem himself in the 3rd movie which in turns redeems Steve as well.
I think having Bucky in the second movie gives a lot of opportunity for character development on Steve's part.
You know, this should not come as surprise to those who have kept up on Marvel movies...Sebastian Stan signed a deal for 6 movies, thats been (un)common knowledge for a while now. With that many movies planned, dont be surprised to see him in an Avengers sequel.

Have to agree, the idea of having your closes friend come back from the dead, being turned into a killing machine, and having no memory of his former self. For someone like Steve who literally has no one from his time, this would for a very deep story as we see Cap trying to save the last link to his time and his best friend. Why would you wait till the 3rd movie? Plus, if Marvel plays their cards right, I could see them having a spin-off movie with Winter Soldier. I mean if Marvel's willing to do a Guardians of the Galaxy and an Ant-Man movie, I really don't see a Winter Soldier movie such a crazy idea now.
@NyxEquitis: I saw that a while ago and figured that he would have a cameo in Avengers as a flashback that Steve would have. So with 2 more Caps and 2 more Avengers, he still has a leftover role. Since WS and Extremis are the lead in stories to Civil War for Cap and Iron Man, I wonder if they will have CW as a storyline for Avengers 2 or 3 and have Bucky play a part. I doubt they would assassinate Steve in the movie and have Bucky take over.
@War Killer: The Winter Soldier movie can definitely happen. I think Kevin Feige wants to see how well received the Winter Soldier is and also hold off on a Black Widow movie to possibly combine together as one.
What I am hoping for is for them to stay absolutely true to the comic and not have Bucky captured by the red skull or someone else. It would make much more logical sense for it to the the Russians so it can give some history and background information on Natasha as well.
I think they might just make Sam a SHIELD agent. What I'm scared of is fitting Sharon Carter, Sam, Nick Fury and Bucky all into one movie. But the directors of Arrested Development are multi emmy winning brothers that know how to tell a story and a joke. I have faith in these guys as they are are successful on any project they want to do.
I really don't think we'll see much of Fury in this movie, I really hope they don't put Falcon in this movie as he would just be a waste of screen time. If anything, Sharon Carter needs to be in this movie; it would give a little closure on the whole "had a date" with Peggy from the first movie and also open doors for a future relationship between the two of them. I think, to still have S.H.I.E.L.D. in the movie, they could also have Sharon brought in as Steve's liaison like in the comics and have her working under Nick Fury's orders to help Steve adjust to the modern world while also keeping an eye on him.@War Killer: The Winter Soldier movie can definitely happen. @Cap10nate: Well, supposedly there was something in the Avengers about Cap reminiscing over him but it was cut...we'll have to wait for the Blu-Ray to come out to see what thats about...
As for Civil War...I think that would be a very bad idea, theres no way they could try to pull off that in a movie universe with so few heroes actually in it.(Now maybe they could take some concepts from it, but a full-blown Civil War? I doubt it) And obviously the next villain has already been teased; Thanos.
@Cap10nate: Very true; however I hope that that wasn't the purpose of that scene...It's definitely plausible, I just hope it doesn't come to that and they use him in Avengers 2.
I wonder who they will use as his handler. Will Skull make an appearance as Dell Rusk and use him? That is what they did in Earths Mightiest Heroes and they blended in the Red Zone story line from Avengers 65-70. I personally hope it isn't red skull. Since most people who aren't avid readers understand the power of the cosmic cube, him returning as well as Bucky would be too much for a general audience I think. I personally hope it will be Zemo. He will have some awesome hand to hand fights with Cap. He just looks so much like someone from GI Joe though that the studio may have to change his appearance.
I really hope they stick to the source material and don't decide to just make Bucky a bad guy instead of a brainwashed assassin being used.
@NyxEquitis: Really? Because Chris Evans is only signed on for six movies (3 Captain America films and 3 Avenger films).

And Sebastian Stan didn't make an appearance in the Avengers I don't think.
