Career
Bob Gregory began work as a technical illustrator for North American Aviation, an airplane manufacturing company. He did not enjoy the work, and often sent work to
Western Publishing, who produced the
Disney comics, in the hopes of finding employment there. In 1958 he was finally able to give up his job and become a freelancer for Western. For the first two years he worked only as a writer, mainly for the
Scrooge McDuck comics, during which time he introduced the Billionaires Club of Duckburg. Starting in 1960 he began to write more and more stories with the intention that he himself would illustrate them. In the 1970s he began to work on comics outside of Scrooge McDuck, including some
Aristocats stories. Most notable, however, was his contribution to the
Daisy and Donald series. Throughout the 1970s he wrote and pencilled most issues of that series. Starting in the 1970s and continuing throughout the 1980s he produced Disney scripts for foreign market publications. As well as his work for Western, Gregory worked for
Walter Lantz, Hanna-Barbera,
Warner Brothers, MGM and DePatie-Freleng at various points from the late 1950s through to the 1970s.
