Im very confused about how powerful Bishop really is. In the comics, it only shows Bishop using energy only after getting hit with energy blasts or draining energy from some kind of power source. But comicvine and other websites explains Bishop powers to be a lot more more versatile and powerful than how writers actually show him. This is comicvine bio on Bishop's powers:
Bishop is a mutant who can manipulate kinetic energy (the energy created by any form of movement) and absorb most types of energy , as well as most types of energy directed toward him. The energy can be converted into electricity, plasma, fire, etc. He can then re-channel it through his body for concussive blasts, or in the same form that was absorbed (this includes Storm's weather effects such as lightning). This re-channeled energy is apparently able to damage beings who are normally immune to their own powers. Due to the nature of his mutant powers, it makes it extremely difficult to damage him with energy-based attacks, while enabling him to work well with any energy-using teammates. Bishop can also store absorbed energy within his personal reserves. Storing this energy within body gives Bishop a variety of benefits including superhuman strength with unknown limits, superhuman speed, increased stamina, accelerated healing, and invulnerability. His powers reduce the need for sleep, food, drinking, body evucations, and oxygen. The energy can also be used for flying. In recent years Bishop has been seen to be learning to absorb physical damage much the way Sebastian Shaw does and redirect this kinetic energy into enhancing his physical abilities as well. However, some energy types are more difficult to absorb than others, and Bishop can only absorb so much energy before he is forced to expel it lest it kill him. He also has the ability to instinctively know where he is at. Bishop is resistant to nanites due to his training in the XSE. He is a formidable armed and unarmed combatant, having been extensively trained during his time with the XSE.
He possesses a cybernetic arm that is powered by nuclear energy, and has been shown to have two clawed tendrils in it, as well as allowing him to time-jump due to built-in time travel technology, the full extent of the technology/abilities of his cybernetic arm are unknown. Bishop's cybernetic grants him Cyberkinesis, allowing him to manipulate technology
Now that you have read that....there is another website to find a description of Bishop powers. This website is just as reliable if not MORE RELIABLE than comicvine:
Bishop is a mutant.
Energy Absorption: Bishop can absorb most types of energy, including magic and psychic, directed toward him. The nature of his powers makes it difficult to damage him with energy-based attacks, while also enabling him to work well with any energy-using teammates. Bishop can also store absorbed energy within his personal reserves, whereupon the energy increases his strength, speed, stamina and recuperative abilities, as well as affording him a measure of invulnerability. The upper limits of his ability to enhance his own physical abilities with absorbed energy is not exactly known but is well into the level of being super human. He is learning to use his energy to temporarily increase his physical attributes in a manner similar to Sebastian Shaw and Agent Zero. This power is passive, allowing Bishop to absorb energy at all times.
- Concussive Blasts: He can rechannel the absorbed energy through his body for biokinetic concussive blasts or in the same form that was absorbed but with twice the force/power, including Storm's weather effects. This rechanneled energy is apparently able to damage beings normally immune to their own powers.
- Accelerated Healing
- Enhanced Strength
- Enhanced Speed
- Enhanced Stamina
- Enhanced Endurance: His powers reduce the need for sleep, food, drinking, body evacuations, and oxygen.
- Near-Invulnerability
- Energy Resistance: During the Civil War: X-Men story arc, Cyclops is controlled by another mutant to use his powers at their full magnitude to attack Bishop. Bishop attempted to absorb the incredible blast for a short time before he reached his limit and was forced to expel the energy into the air in a blast that would have killed everyone in the area. Other durability feats include Bishop preventing the X-Men's death at the hands of one of the most powerful beings in history, Onslaught, by absorbing a blast of an incredible amount of psionic energy aimed at killing them all. Plus taking and giving back two-fold a blast from the powerful mutant Mr. M.
Cybernetic Arm: After Bishop lost an arm, he resorted to breaking into Forge's laboratory to find a replacement. According to the sign which identified the cybernetic arm that was stolen by Bishop, it is a "nuclear-powered battle-ready arm". All of the capabilities have not yet been revealed at this time, however Bishop has been shown to be able to release two clawed tendrils from the arm which he used to ensnare and strangle Cable. The arm had been modified to include Forge's time travel technology allowing Bishop to time-jump. Judging from the nature of the arm, not to mention its nuclear power source it is likely to have a considerable amount of superhuman strength, as well as, perhaps, abilities not yet revealed.
He can "let his spirit go" as seen in X-Treme X-Men Annual #1. It's unknown if this is a mutant talent, or an ability taught to Bishop sometime in his life.

Abilities
Bishop recently has shown the ability to instinctively determine his exact location and the time he is in at all times, even if asleep. This may have to do with the chronal energies he absorbed. Bishop is a trained police officer, skilled in the homicide branch. Bishop has also had many years of armed and unarmed combat training has made him a devastating unarmed combatant, and a superb marksman with firearms, both from his own time, some of which he brought with him from the future when he originally arrived in our present, and also both heavy duty military and conventional guns and weapons of the present time.
Now since you have read those descriptions of Bishop's powers....I believe its safe to say that Bishop's absorption powers allows him to absorb energy from our atmosphere and not just energy from energy beams and etc....which means Bishop shouldn't need to get hit with energy by his opponents to have a charge. With that being said, Bishop is waaay more powerful than what the writers portrays him as. Should we limit Bishop to what the writer portrays him as or should we use the full scope of bishop powers when we use him in our battle threads?
The reason I'm asking these questions and bringing this up is because Bishop is one of my favorite comic characters and I don't like how writers limit him.
