History
The Best Destiny imprint was created in 1996 when Ottawa, Canada-based creator
Janet Hetherington decided to self-publish her
Eternal Romance supernatural love comic book series that told dating horror stories in the style of 50s and 60s romance comics. Eternal Romance #1 was published in 1997 and distributed by Diamond Comic Distributors, Cold Cut and other direct-to-comic shop distributors of the time.
As cited in the limited-edition Eternal Romance Labor of Love Sketchbook, published by Best Destiny (Summer 1998), the name Best Destiny comes from Hetherington's philosophy of "I am my own Best Destiny." As Hetherington hails from bilingual (English/French) Canada, the initials B.D. also stand for the French term for comics -- BD, or bandes desinees.
Other Applications
Hetherington uses Best Destiny as a moniker in other places as well: on eBay, on Twitter, for her blog "@ Best Destiny" and here on Comic Vine.
